SURPRISE
It was our first wedding anniversary, and Keifer had planned the most romantic surprise. He had recreated our first date—a sunset cruise on the harbor.
"Keifer," I breathed, my eyes wide with wonder. "You did all this for me?"
"Anything for my wife," he said, pulling me into his arms. "Happy anniversary, Mrs. Watson."
"Happy anniversary, Mr. Watson," I whispered back.
The Vows Renewal
We had a small ceremony on the boat, renewing our vows in front of our closest friends and family. I looked into Keifer's eyes, my heart overflowing with love.
"I love you more today than I did on the day we were married," I said.
"I love you more today than I did yesterday," he said, "and I will love you more tomorrow than I do today. Forever."

✨ ORIGINAL CHAPTER 20: THE DEVIL'S THREAT
Yuri's POV
From the shadows of a nearby building, I watched them through a pair of high-powered binoculars. The happy couple, so blissfully unaware of the storm that was about to descend upon them. Keifer Watson thought he was untouchable. He thought he could have everything—the empire, the woman, the happy ending.
He was wrong.
I smiled a thin, cruel smile. "So, the great Keifer Watson has finally found his weakness," I murmured to my associate. "That girl. That beautiful, fiery girl. She's his everything. And that makes her the perfect weapon."
I lowered the binoculars, my eyes glinting with malice. "Get me everything on her. I want to know her schedule, her habits, her vulnerabilities. And I want to know when Keifer is at his most distracted."
Keifer's POV
I was in my office, going over security reports, when my phone buzzed. It was an unknown number, and I almost ignored it. But something made me answer.
"Mr. Watson," a cold, familiar voice drawled. "I thought we could have a little chat."
My blood ran cold. "Yuri. What do you want?"
"Straight to the point. I like that." Yuri chuckled, but there was no humor in it. "Here's the deal, Keifer. You have one week to transfer all your holdings to me. Every single asset. If you don't, I will destroy you. And I'll start with the thing you love most."
"I don't know what you're talking about," I said, my voice dangerously calm.
"Oh, I think you do." Yuri's voice dripped with sadistic glee. "The lovely Jay. Your precious wife. She's quite beautiful, isn't she? It would be a shame if something happened to her."
"Touch her, and I will kill you," I snarled, my grip tightening on the phone.
"Big words from a man who can't protect his own mother." The words hit me like a physical blow. "I know everything about you, Keifer. I know about your father, about your mother's death. I know about the guilt you carry. And I know you would do anything to protect Jay. So here's my offer: surrender your empire, or watch her suffer."
The line went dead.
I threw the phone across the room, my chest heaving with rage. The threat was real. Yuri was unhinged, and he would stop at nothing to destroy me. I couldn't let him get to Jay. I had to protect her, no matter what.

✨ ORIGINAL CHAPTER 21: THE NIGHTMARE BEGINS
Jay's POV
The week that followed was a nightmare. Keifer was on edge, constantly looking over his shoulder, barely sleeping. I tried to reassure him, to tell him that Yuri was just bluffing, but he wouldn't listen. His fear was palpable, and it was starting to consume him.
"Keifer, you need to calm down," I said one evening, placing my hand on his arm. "We're safe here. Section E is watching us. Nothing is going to happen."
He shook his head violently. "You don't understand, Jay. Yuri is insane. He killed his own father without blinking. He won't hesitate to hurt you to get to me."
"But we're protected—"
"We are never safe!" he shouted, his voice cracking with desperation. "Don't you understand? I can't lose you, Jay. I can't. You're everything to me. If something happened to you, I wouldn't survive it."
Tears welled in my eyes at the raw emotion in his voice. "Keifer, nothing is going to happen to me. I promise you. I'm not going anywhere."
He pulled me into his arms, holding me so tightly I could barely breathe. "I'm sorry," he whispered, his voice trembling. "I'm so sorry for putting you in danger. This is all my fault."
"No," I said firmly, pulling back to look at him. "It's not your fault. It's Yuri's. And we're going to get through this together. We always do."
A Night of Fear
That night, we lay in bed, holding each other. Neither of us could sleep. Keifer was constantly checking the windows, the doors, listening for any sound.
"Jay," he whispered, his voice shaky. "If anything happens to me—"
"Don't," I interrupted, pressing a finger to his lips. "Nothing is going to happen to you. We are going to get through this together."
"But if it does," he continued, his eyes shining with unshed tears. "I want you to know that I love you. I love you more than anything in this world. You are the best thing that ever happened to me."
"Keifer," I whispered, my own eyes filling with tears. "Nothing is going to happen to you. I won't let it. I can't live without you."
He pulled me into his arms, holding me tightly. "I can't live without you either, Jay. That's why I'm so scared."
We spent the rest of the night in each other's arms, holding onto each other as if we were the only two people in the world.

✨ ORIGINAL CHAPTER 22: THE DAY OF THE ATTACK
Jay's POV (The Day of the Attack)
I had been feeling restless all morning, cooped up in the house while Keifer attended a business meeting. He had begged me to stay inside, to let his men guard me, but I needed fresh air. Just a few minutes in the garden, that was all.
I stepped outside, the warm sun on my face a welcome relief. The flowers were in full bloom, their colors bright and cheerful. I took a deep breath, letting the peace wash over me.
I should have known it was too good to be true.
Before I could react, hands grabbed me from behind, a cloth pressed over my mouth and nose. I struggled, kicking and screaming, but my attackers were too strong. The world began to spin, and then everything went dark.
Keifer's POV
I was in the middle of a meeting when my phone rang. It was my head of security.
"Sir! They've breached the perimeter! Yuri's men are everywhere! They have Miss Jay!"
The world went silent. I didn't hear the rest of his words. I was already running, my heart pounding with terror. No. No, no, no. This couldn't be happening. I had promised to protect her. I had sworn I would never let anyone hurt her.
I burst into the garden, my gun already drawn. There, in the center of the lawn, Yuri stood with Jay in his grip. She was conscious, her eyes wide with fear, a bruise already forming on her cheek. Fury, hot and blinding, surged through me.
"Let her go!" I roared, my voice echoing across the garden.
Jay's POV
He was there. Keifer was there, his face a mask of fury and terror. I wanted to scream at him to run, to save himself, but Yuri's grip on me was too tight.
"Keifer, no!" I shouted. "It's a trap! He wants to kill you! Run!"
Yuri laughed, a cold, cruel sound. "Run? Oh, he's not going anywhere. I told you, my dear. I'm going to make him watch."
He pulled out a gun and pointed it directly at Keifer. My heart stopped. "No! Please, don't! I'll do anything! Just don't hurt him!"
"Ah, the power of love," Yuri drawled, his eyes glinting with malice. "How touching. But love won't save him now."
I saw Keifer's eyes flicker to something behind Yuri. Section E. They were surrounding us, their weapons drawn. A glint of hope sparked in my heart. They could stop him. They had to stop him.
But Yuri was faster. He saw the operatives, saw his men falling around him. With a roar of rage, he fired.
But not at Keifer.
The bullet hit his own father, the man who had funded his schemes. The old man crumpled to the ground, a pool of blood spreading beneath him. Yuri grabbed me, pressing the gun to my head.
"Stay back!" he screamed, his voice wild with desperation. "I'll do it! I swear to God, I'll kill her if you come any closer!"

🔥 THE MOMENT KEIFER GETS SHOT
Keifer's POV
Time seemed to slow down. I saw Yuri's finger tighten on the trigger. I saw Jay's face, pale with terror. I saw my worst nightmare unfolding before my eyes.
"No!" I screamed, launching myself forward.
I don't remember making the decision to run. I just remember the desperate need to protect her. I threw myself in front of her, my body shielding hers as I heard the gunshot.
The bullet hit me square in the chest.
Pain exploded through my body, so intense it stole my breath. I felt myself falling, the world tilting on its axis. I saw Jay's face, her scream of horror echoing in my ears. I felt the warmth of my own blood spreading across my chest.
"Keifer! NO!"
Her voice was so far away, so distorted. I tried to reach for her, to tell her I was okay, but I couldn't move. Everything was going dark.
"Jay," I whispered, my voice barely a whisper. "I love you. I'm sorry..."
And then everything went black.
Jay's POV
"KEIFER!"
His body hit the ground with a sickening thud, and I was thrown into a nightmare. Blood was spreading across his chest, staining his white shirt crimson. His eyes were closed. He wasn't moving.
"No, no, no, no, no!" I dropped to my knees beside him, my hands shaking as I reached for him. "Keifer! Wake up! Please, wake up!"
His face was so pale, his lips already losing their color. A sob tore from my throat. "Please don't leave me. Please. I love you. I can't do this without you."
I could hear gunfire around me, shouts, chaos. But all I could see was him. The blood. The wound. The way his chest wasn't rising.
"Help!" I screamed, my voice cracking. "Someone help him! Please!"
I pressed my hands against his wound, trying to stop the bleeding. His blood was everywhere, on my hands, on my dress, on my face. But I didn't care. All I cared about was him.
"Stay with me, Keifer," I begged, tears streaming down my face. "Please stay with me. I love you. I love you so much. You can't leave me. You promised. You promised you'd never leave me."
The paramedics arrived, pulling me away from him. I fought them, screaming his name, but they were too strong. I watched them lift him onto a stretcher, saw the frantic movements, the urgent medical jargon. And then they were gone, taking him away from me.

✨ ORIGINAL CHAPTER 23: THE LONGEST NIGHT
Jay's POV
I sat in the hospital waiting room, my clothes still covered in his blood. My hands were shaking so badly I couldn't hold the cup of coffee Angelo had pressed into them. I stared at the doors, willing them to open, willing someone to tell me he was okay.
Angelo sat beside me, his arm around my shoulders. "He's a fighter, Jay. He's going to be okay."
I didn't respond. I couldn't. The words were stuck in my throat, buried under the weight of my grief. All I could see was Keifer falling, the blood spreading across his chest. All I could hear was the gunshot, his body hitting the ground.
Angelo's POV
I watched my sister-in-law fall apart, her face hollow with shock. I had never seen her like this. She was always so strong, so fierce. But now she looked broken, like a piece of her had died on that garden lawn.
"Jay," I said softly. "You need to stay strong. For him. He's going to need you."
She nodded, but I could tell she wasn't really listening. Her eyes were fixed on the doors, waiting.
Hours passed. The doctors came out, their faces grim. "He's in a coma," they said. "The bullet barely missed his heart. He's stable, but we don't know when he'll wake up."
A sob escaped Jay's lips, and she collapsed against me. "It's my fault," she whispered, her voice broken. "He jumped in front of me. He took the bullet for me. If I hadn't gone outside..."
"Don't do that," I said firmly. "It wasn't your fault. It was Yuri's. Keifer did what he had to do to protect you. He loves you more than anything. That's not your fault."
Jay's POV (Three Days Later)
I had barely slept in three days. I refused to leave his side, spending every moment by his hospital bed, holding his hand, talking to him, begging him to wake up. His face was pale, his chest rising and falling in a slow, mechanical rhythm. The machines beeped around him, a constant reminder of how fragile his life was.
"Keifer, I'm here," I whispered, pressing a kiss to his knuckles. "I'm not going anywhere. Please wake up. I need you. Our babies need you."
I wasn't pregnant. Not yet. But I was so desperate to give him the family he wanted that I had started imagining it. We would have children. We would have a happy life. I just needed him to wake up.
The Breakdown
On the fourth day, I finally broke. The guilt, the fear, the exhaustion—it all came crashing down on me.
"It's all my fault," I sobbed to Angelo, my body wracked with grief. "If I had just stayed inside like he asked, none of this would have happened. He wouldn't be lying in that bed. He took a bullet for me. He almost died for me. I don't deserve him. I'm just a burden. A curse. Everyone I love gets hurt."
Angelo pulled me into a tight embrace. "Jay, listen to me. You are not a curse. You are the best thing that ever happened to Keifer. He knew the risks when he chose you. He chose you anyway. And he would do it again. That's how much he loves you."
"But I can't give him what he wants," I whispered, my voice hollow. "I can't give him a family. I can't even protect myself. What kind of wife am I?"
"Jay," Angelo said firmly, tilting my chin up to look at him. "You are going to get through this. Keifer is going to wake up. And you are going to have the family you both deserve. I believe that. Now you need to believe it too."

✨ ORIGINAL CHAPTER 24: JAY'S VIGIL
Jay's POV (Day Five)
I was alone with him, the machines beeping their steady rhythm. I held his hand, stroking his fingers, willing him to squeeze back.
"Keifer," I whispered, my voice raw from crying. "Do you remember when we first met? You were so arrogant, so full of yourself. I thought you were the most annoying man I'd ever met."
I laughed softly, tears streaming down my face. "But then I got to know you. I saw the real you. The boy who lost his mother. The man who would do anything to protect his brothers. The man who made me feel like I was the most important person in the world."
I pressed his hand to my cheek. "I need you to wake up, Keifer. I need to see your eyes again. I need to hear your voice. I need to feel your arms around me. I can't do this without you. Please. Please wake up."
I felt a faint squeeze. My heart stopped. "Keifer?" I whispered, looking at his face.
His eyes fluttered. "Jay..." he croaked, his voice barely a whisper.
"KEIFER!" I screamed, throwing myself into his arms. "You're awake! You're okay! Oh my God, I thought I lost you!"
"Never," he whispered, his hand trembling as he stroked my hair. "I promised I would always come back to you. I keep my promises."
"I love you," I sobbed. "I love you so much. Please never scare me like that again."
"I won't," he promised. "I'm never leaving you again."

✨ ORIGINAL CHAPTER 25: THE MONSTER STRIKES
Jay's POV (One Week Later)
Keifer was still recovering, but he was out of the ICU and in a regular room. I spent every moment by his side, holding his hand, reading to him, just being with him.
One afternoon, I needed a break. The hospital room was suffocating, the beeping of the machines driving me mad. I decided to step outside for a few minutes, to get some fresh air. His father was in jail, Yuri was dead. I was safe. Or so I thought.
I was walking through the hospital garden, the sun warm on my face, when I heard footsteps behind me. I turned, and my blood ran cold.
Keifer's father stood there, his eyes blazing with fury. He had somehow been released on bail. Before I could scream, he lunged, grabbing me by the arm.
"You!" he snarled, his grip like iron. "You're the reason my son is in that hospital! You're a curse! You've destroyed my family!"
"Let go of me!" I screamed, trying to pull away.
He wasn't listening. His face was twisted with rage, his eyes wild. "You took my sons from me! You turned Keifer against me! You'll pay for this!"
And then he kicked me. Hard. In the abdomen. The pain was instantaneous, so sharp and blinding that I couldn't even scream. I crumpled to the ground, gasping for air, my hands clutching my stomach.
"Stay away from my family!" he shouted, raising his fist to strike me again.
But then the security guards were there, pulling him off me. I heard shouts, scuffling, and then his angry voice fading as they dragged him away. But all I could feel was the pain. It was radiating through my body, making me nauseous. And then I felt something else. Something wet.
I looked down at my hands. They were covered in blood.
