Useless Boy
SHADOWS OF THE FORGOTTEN HEIR:
CHAPTER 1: The Rule of Strength
This world is called Aethelgard. Here, one law is absolute: The strong rise, the weak vanish. There is no kindness, no mercy, and no justice—only power. Those who possess great martial arts skill or master the ancient magic rule the lands. Those without are stepped upon and forgotten.
The lands are divided. In the center stands the Solaris Empire—the largest, richest, and most powerful nation in existence. Ruled by the invincible Emperor Solas, no one dares challenge them. His only child is Princess Elara. She is not just beautiful; she was born with immense power. She is the pride of the world, the heir to the greatest throne, and the dream of every warrior.
Far away, in a modest, quiet kingdom called Oakhaven, lives a boy named Kael. His father is King Corvus, a ruler of little importance, constantly trying to please the great powers. Kael is the eldest son, yet he is treated as if he does not exist. Everyone’s eyes are fixed on his younger brother, Zane. Zane is talented, loud, charming, and skilled with a sword.
"Zane will be a great King!" their father always says proudly. "Look at him! Unlike this useless thing standing there."
Kael bows his head, hiding the fire burning in his eyes. But people do not know the truth. They do not know what happened when Kael was seven years old.
CHAPTER 2: A Night of Blood and Silence
Kael still remembers that night perfectly. It was raining heavily, the sky as dark as his heart. He saw his mother, the gentle Queen, arguing with his father and a cruel woman named Seraphina—his father’s mistress.
"You are in the way," Seraphina hissed.
Before Kael could run to help, dark magic exploded. He watched in horror as his mother fell lifeless to the ground. His father stood nearby, looking away, while Seraphina smiled.
"Get rid of the boy too," Seraphina said coldly.
But Kael did not cry. He hid in the shadows, his heart turning to ice. He realized: My father does not care about me. No one will protect me. Only strength can bring justice. Only strength can bring revenge.
From that day on, Kael became a ghost. He acted weak, clumsy, and talentless. He let Zane take all the glory. He let his father and Seraphina laugh at him. He let everyone believe he was good for nothing.
But when night falls, Kael vanishes.
Deep in the hidden ruins beneath the castle, he trains until his bones ache. He practices ancient martial arts that no one else knows. He channels magic that should be impossible for someone his age. He pushes his body past every limit. His anger is his fuel. His revenge is his goal. He grows stronger every single day—silently, secretly, terrifyingly.
“Wait for me, Mother,” he whispers under the moonlight. “One day, I will make them kneel before me. And they will pay for every tear you shed.”
CHAPTER 3: The Decree of the Empire
A command arrived from the Solaris Empire—a command that shook the entire world.
The great Emperor Solas had decided it was time for his daughter, Princess Elara, to choose a partner. But she would not marry for politics. She would marry strength.
A Grand Tournament was announced. Every kingdom, great and small, must send their strongest warrior. They will fight in the Arena of Valor. The one who proves to be the strongest, most reliable, and worthy—will win the Princess’s hand and become the future ruler of the entire realm.
King Corvus was thrilled. "This is our chance! Zane will go! He is strong, talented, and he will surely win! Then our family will rule the world!"
Zane puffed out his chest proudly. "Of course, Father. I will defeat everyone."
Then he looked at Kael, who was sweeping the floor nearby. "And what about you, useless brother? Are you going to cry because you aren't good enough?"
Kael looked up slowly, his eyes calm but deep as the ocean. "Father... I want to go too."
Everyone burst out laughing. Even the servants giggled.
"You?" Corvus scoffed. "You will die in the first round! But... fine. Go ahead. It will be amusing to watch you get beaten. Maybe it will teach you your place."
They thought he was going to embarrass himself. They had no idea—Kael was going to the arena to show the world what true strength really looks like.
CHAPTER 4: The Arena of Strength
The Tournament was massive. Thousands gathered. The strongest warriors from every land gathered—giants, mages, masters of combat. And watching from the highest throne was Princess Elara, observing every challenger with sharp, intelligent eyes.
The first rounds were brutal. Zane fought with all his might, barely winning his matches, sweating and terrified. Everyone cheered for him.
Then came Kael’s turn.
He walked into the arena looking small, shy, and trembling. His opponent was a massive warrior, famous for crushing his enemies.
"Is this a joke?" the giant laughed, raising his weapon. "I could blow you away!"
From the stands, Zane laughed. King Corvus shook his head in shame.
Kael stood still. He looked up, and for a split second, his eyes flashed with a terrifying light.
“My mother… watch me now.”
The giant charged. Kael didn't run. He didn't scream. He simply stepped forward. In a blur of motion no one could follow, he struck once.
BOOM!
The giant flew backward, crashing into the wall and sliding down, unconscious. Silence fell over the entire stadium.
Kael stood there, dusting off his sleeves. "I… I guess I got lucky," he mumbled, lowering his head again.
But Princess Elara leaned forward on her throne. Her eyes widened. She saw it. She saw the control, the speed, the immense power hidden behind that humble face. “That boy… he is not weak. He is the strongest person here.”
CHAPTER 5: Secrets and Rising Darkness
As the tournament continued, Kael won every match. He always acted like it was luck, or he was just barely surviving. But Elara watched him closely. She saw the way he moved. She sensed the power hiding inside him. She began to seek him out.
"Why do you hide your strength?" she asked him one evening, away from everyone else.
Kael looked at her, surprised. He saw no arrogance in her eyes—only honesty. For the first time, he told someone a little of his truth. "Because in this world, if people know you are strong before you are ready... they will kill you before you can do what you must."
Elara nodded slowly. She understood. She too was strong, and she knew the dangers of power. A bond began to grow between them. The girl who had everything, and the boy who had nothing but a secret and a vow.
But something terrible was happening.
Deep beneath the earth, ancient seals were breaking. The energy from the Tournament, the gathering of so much power, had awakened something that had been sleeping for one thousand years.
The Dark Lords of the Old Era.
A thousand years ago, they ruled the world through fear and cruelty. They were defeated and sealed away. But now, they were waking up. They were filled with hatred for the descendants of those who trapped them. They wanted revenge. They wanted to burn this world to ash.
The sky turned dark purple. Strange storms raged. Monsters that had only existed in legends began to appear. The strongest Kings trembled in fear. The world was not just fighting for a Princess anymore—they were fighting for their very survival.
CHAPTER 6: Unmasked
The final round of the Tournament arrived. Only two remained: Kael and the strongest warrior of the Empire.
Before the fight began, the ground shook violently. Cracks opened in the arena floor. The sky turned black. The Ancient Evil was beginning to invade. Fear gripped the hearts of everyone.
"Run away!" people screamed.
Kael stood in the center of the arena. He looked at the darkness approaching. He looked at his father, Zane, and Seraphina—shaking in fear. He looked at Elara, standing brave but ready to fight.
“No more hiding,” Kael decided. “It is time to show who I really am.”
He dropped his weak posture. He stood tall, and suddenly, a massive aura exploded from his body—golden, burning, ancient power that pushed back the darkness itself. His eyes shone with fierce determination.
"I AM KAEL, SON OF LADY LIRA!" his voice boomed, heard by everyone. "I AM NOT WEAK! I AM THE HEIR OF A POWER LONG FORGOTTEN!"
Everyone was stunned. King Corvus fell to his knees. Zane looked at his brother in disbelief and shame. Seraphina stepped back, terrified. This was the boy they threw away? This was the power they ignored?
Elara smiled proudly. “I knew it.”
