Chapter 4: The Night Raid and the Secret Savior

The attack came at 3:00 AM.

A deafening, inhuman howl shattered the silence, followed by the sound of splintering wood and the frantic, echoing screams of the citadel's thralls. Maya sat up instantly. Looking out her window, she saw a pack of massive, wolf-like creatures with pitch-black fur and glowing red eyes—the Shadow-wolves—breaching the courtyard.

Down below, Julian and Eleanor were already fighting. Julian, spotting Maya at the window, hissed to his companions, "Leave the mortal! Let the beasts tear her apart; we can salvage her magic toys later!"

But Maya wasn't paying attention to Julian. Her eyes locked onto a small, trembling vampire child who had tripped in the middle of the courtyard, cornered by a snarling, saliva-dripping Shadow-wolf.

Without a second thought, Maya bolted out of her room and sprinted down the stone stairs. Eleanor, seeing Maya run toward the danger, opened her mouth to beg for help—but Maya was already ahead of her.

"Mochi, I need a blueprint!" Maya yelled.

As she ran, her intense, urgent desire to protect the child pulsed through her mind. In that exact split second, something *clicked* inside her brain. A sharp, warm sensation rushed through her temples as a glowing holographic screen flashed in her field of vision:

Suddenly, the mechanical whirs, beeps, and digital blurs Mochi made weren't just noises anymore. She could *understand* every line of code, every system diagnostic, and every thought the drone had. More than that—Mochi instantly responded to her silent, mental commands. *She didn't even need to speak. Whatever she thought, Mochi did.*

*‘Create a non-lethal crowd-control weapon!’* Maya thought.

Mochi instantly beeped in perfect, telepathic understanding. He dropped to the floor, absorbed a shattered iron shield from the ground, and rearranged the atoms in a fraction of a second. He materialized a sleek, high-tech gravity-pulse rifle directly into Maya's hands.

Maya slid to a halt in front of the vampire child, raised the rifle, and pulled the trigger.

*VROOOOOOM!*

A massive wave of pressurized, kinetic gravity erupted from the barrel. It didn't pierce or burn; instead, it acted like a giant, soft kinetic wall, violently blasting the giant wolf and three others back fifty feet into the stone pillars, knocking them unconscious without killing them.

"Get to safety!" Maya told the wide-eyed vampire kid, who scrambled away in awe.

While Maya was busy pushing the wolves back with non-lethal gravity pulses, Julian saw his chance. He lunged at the massive, fierce leader of the Shadow-wolves, driving a silver blade deep into the beast's chest. The leader let out a painful, agonized roar, batting Julian away. Knowing he was gravely wounded, the wolf leader summoned the strength to leap over the high stone wall, escaping into the dark, foggy forest.

While the vampires celebrated their defense, Maya noticed the trail of glowing, dark blood leading into the woods. Slipping away from the noisy courtyard while no one was looking, she quietly followed the tracks into the deep fog.

Under a massive, gnarled tree, she found him. The Shadow-wolf leader had reverted to a semi-humanoid form—a rugged, heavily muscled man with wild dark hair, wolf ears, and a gaping, bleeding wound on his chest. He was gasping for air, clutching his chest.

As Maya approached, he bared his fangs and let out a weak, menacing growl. "Stay back... human. I will rip your throat out..."

"Yeah, yeah, save your breath," Maya said softly, kneeling down.

She opened her hands, and Mochi—understanding her thoughts perfectly—floated down and began sanitizing the wound with a soft, glowing green laser while dispensing a cool, numbing medical gel. Maya gently applied a sterile, high-tech pressure bandage from her pocket.

The wolf leader froze. His wild, red eyes stared at her in utter shock. "You... you are human. A mortal. Why do you help a monster? Your kind detests us..."

As the soothing gel instantly took away the burning pain of the silver poison, a sudden, strange warmth sparked in his cold, guarded heart. He looked at Maya’s focused, calm expression, his defensive growl dying in his throat. He realized she truly meant him no harm.

"Thanks," he muttered, his voice rough as he tried to stand up. "But I must go. The vampires will track me."

"You're not going anywhere in that state," Maya said, pushing him gently back down. She looked at Mochi, mentally projecting a thought: *‘Build him a secure, hidden shelter.’*

Mochi beeped softly. Utilizing the surrounding stone and earth, the drone quickly constructed a small, perfectly concealed underground safe bunker. The entrance was disguised as a mossy rock.

"Rest up here. You lost too much blood. You can leave tomorrow," Maya said, turning to walk back to the citadel before she was missed. "And don't worry, you're safe here."

The wolf leader, still highly suspicious, cautiously crawled into the bunker. He sniffed the walls, bracing for a trap.

Suddenly, the sound of crunching leaves and arrogant voices echoed from nearby. Through a tiny, one-way holographic viewport in the bunker wall, he saw Julian and a few vampire guards searching the area.

The wolf leader held his breath, raising his claws, preparing to fight to the death if they opened the hatch. But to his absolute amazement, Julian walked right past the bunker. The vampires looked directly at the mossy rock, completely unable to see or sense him. The bunker was entirely invisible to their magic and senses.

Only when the voices faded into the distance did the wolf leader finally let out a long, shuddering sigh of relief. He looked to the side and noticed a small tray of high-protein rations and clean water Mochi had left behind.

He ate the food, finding it surprisingly delicious, and for the first time in years, he curled up in the warm, secure bunker and fell into a deep, peaceful sleep.
