Chapter Two: The Man Behind the Monster Part One

Everyone in Blackridge knew the name Damien Voss.

But almost no one knew the man.

They knew the headlines.

The billionaire who built an empire before thirty.

The businessman who never lost a negotiation.

The man whose enemies disappeared from the spotlight as quickly as they entered it.

They knew the rumors.

They knew the fear.

But they didn't know the nights he spent awake staring at old photographs.

They didn't know the memories he buried beneath expensive suits and a cold expression.

They didn't know that every victory he achieved felt like another reminder of everything he had lost.

Damien stood in front of the large window of his office, watching the city wake up.

A city full of people pretending they weren't afraid.

Behind him, Marcus placed a folder on the desk.

"Any news about the person who sent the message?"

Damien didn't turn around.

"Nothing."

"That is unusual."

"Yes."

Marcus was quiet.

For years, he had been the one person who could read Damien better than anyone else.

But today, even Marcus couldn't tell what he was thinking.

"You are worried about her."

Damien's expression remained unchanged.

"I'm worried about the situation."

Marcus gave a small smile.

"Of course."

Damien ignored the comment.

"Increase security around Elara."

Marcus looked surprised.

"She is not your responsibility."

The words hung in the air.

Damien finally looked at him.

"She is connected to this."

"That doesn't mean you need to protect her."

Something about Marcus's tone bothered him.

It was subtle.

Almost invisible.

But Damien noticed everything.

"Do you disagree with my decision?"

Marcus lowered his gaze.

"No."

But his answer came too quickly.

---

Elara had not painted for three days.

Every time she picked up a brush, she saw the symbol.

The broken circle.

The secret.

The warning.

Her apartment no longer felt safe.

Every shadow looked suspicious.

Every sound made her turn around.

She hated feeling afraid.

Fear had always been something she fought against.

Her mother had raised her to be brave.

But now she wondered if bravery was the reason her mother died.

The thought made her angry.

She grabbed her jacket.

She needed answers.

And there was only one person who had them.

---

Blackwood Manor looked different during the day.

Less like a haunted castle.

More like a fortress.

Elara walked through the gates and immediately noticed the increased security.

"You added guards."

Damien, standing near the entrance, looked at her.

"Yes."

"Because of me?"

"Because of whoever is watching you."

She didn't like how serious he sounded.

"You knew this could happen when you brought me here."

Damien was silent.

That silence was enough.

"You did."

"I suspected there were risks."

Elara stepped closer.

"And you still asked me to come?"

"I gave you a choice."

"That doesn't make it better."

For a moment, Damien had no response.

Because she was right.

He had spent his life making difficult choices.

Necessary choices.

But that didn't mean innocent people should pay for them.

"I apologize."

The words surprised her.

She hadn't expected them.

Especially from him.

Damien Voss didn't seem like a man who apologized.

"You're not what people say you are."

The sentence left her mouth before she could stop it.

His expression changed slightly.

"What do people say I am?"

She looked at him.

"A monster."

A long silence followed.

Then Damien asked quietly:

"And what do you think?"

Elara didn't answer immediately.

Because she didn't know.

She had seen his darkness.

But she had also seen his loneliness.

"I think..."

She paused.

"I think monsters don't usually care if they hurt people."

Something unreadable passed through his eyes.

"Some do."

The answer was colder than she expected.

Before she could ask what he meant, Lydia appeared.

"Mr. Voss."

Damien turned.

"Someone has arrived."

"Who?"

The older woman looked toward the entrance.

"Your sister."

Damien froze.

Elara noticed.

For the first time, his calm expression disappeared completely.

"Isabella."

---

A black car stopped outside Blackwood Manor.

A woman stepped out.

Elegant.

Confident.

With the same gray eyes as Damien.

Isabella Voss entered the house carrying a secret she had kept for years.

She looked at Elara.

Then at Damien.

And whispered:

"She looks exactly like her."

Damien's expression hardened.

"Like who?"

Isabella looked at Elara.

"Your mother."

The room went silent.

Because everyone knew one thing.

Isabella Voss had not returned after years of silence without a reason.

She had returned because the past was finally coming back.

And this time...

It was bringing the truth with it.
