The night felt colder than usual.
Ethan Vale sat beside a small fire deep inside Blackridge Forest, staring into the flames while trying to understand the impossible reality he had been forced into.
Only a few days ago, his biggest worries were school, homework, and figuring out what he wanted to do with his future.
Now, everything had changed.
He was no longer completely human.
Inside him lived the power of an ancient werewolf, a creature feared by humans for generations. He could hear sounds from hundreds of meters away, feel the movement of every creature nearby, and sense emotions stronger than ever before.
But the most terrifying part was knowing there was another presence inside him.
The wolf.
Ethan looked down at his hands.
"How can I live like this?" he whispered.
Across the fire, Kael remained silent. The ancient werewolf watched Ethan carefully, remembering the same fear he once felt when he first discovered his own power.
"You are afraid of yourself," Kael finally said.
Ethan looked up.
"Of course I am. I changed into something people hunt. I have no idea what I am becoming."
Kael stared into the flames.
"Fear is natural. But allowing fear to control you is dangerous."
Ethan became frustrated.
"You keep saying control, but you never explain anything. I need answers, Kael."
The ancient werewolf looked toward the sky.
The moon was shining brightly above the trees.
"Then you will learn the truth."
Ethan moved closer.
"About the curse?"
"About everything."
Kael took a deep breath.
"Long before humans knew about werewolves, there were clans that lived hidden from the world. They were not monsters. They were guardians who protected nature, magic, and the balance between different races."
Ethan listened carefully.
"The strongest among them was the Moonbound Clan. They carried an ancient power connected to the moon itself."
"And you were part of that clan?"
Kael nodded.
"I was their leader."
Ethan was surprised.
"You were a king?"
"Not a king. A protector."
Kael looked away.
"I believed my duty was to keep peace between humans and werewolves. But not everyone wanted peace."
Ethan already knew the answer.
"Vargan."
Kael's eyes narrowed.
"Yes. Vargan was once one of our greatest warriors. He believed werewolves were superior to humans and that the world should belong to those with the strongest power."
"What happened?"
"He tried to take control of the Moonbound power. When we refused, he started a war."
The forest became silent.
"Many died," Kael continued. "The humans feared all werewolves because of him. Hunters were created, and eventually, I was betrayed and imprisoned inside Shadowfang Cave."
Ethan looked at the ground.
"So the world thinks werewolves are monsters because of one person."
"Because of one person's ambition."
Ethan clenched his fists.
"Then why was the curse inside the cave?"
Kael looked directly at him.
"Because it was waiting."
"Waiting for what?"
"For you."
Ethan froze.
Kael continued.
"The Moonbound Curse cannot be passed to anyone. It chooses someone with the ability to carry both human emotions and werewolf instincts."
Ethan shook his head.
"I am just a normal person."
Kael gave a small smile.
"That is exactly why you were chosen."
Before Ethan could answer, a strange feeling suddenly entered his mind.
The fire disappeared.
The forest vanished.
He was standing somewhere else.
A massive battlefield stretched before him.
The sky was covered by a red moon.
Werewolves fought across the land while ancient magic filled the air.
Ethan looked around in confusion.
"What is this?"
A voice echoed.
"The future."
Ethan turned.
A figure stood before him wearing silver armor.
The person looked like him.
Older.
Stronger.
Different.
"You will decide what happens next."
Ethan stepped back.
"Who are you?"
The figure did not answer.
The vision shattered.
Ethan returned to reality and fell to the ground.
Kael immediately rushed toward him.
"What did you see?"
Ethan breathed heavily.
"I saw a war. I saw werewolves fighting. And I saw myself."
Kael's expression became serious.
"The curse is revealing possible futures."
"Possible?"
"Yes. Nothing is guaranteed. Your choices will shape what happens."
Ethan slowly stood.
"Then I will not become the monster everyone expects."
Kael nodded.
"Good."
Suddenly, the animals of the forest became silent.
Kael looked toward the trees.
Something was wrong.
"Ethan..."
A low growl echoed through the darkness.
"What is it?"
Kael stepped forward.
"We are being watched."
The trees moved.
One figure appeared.
Then another.
Then dozens.
They wore black armor and carried weapons marked with strange symbols.
Ethan recognized the feeling immediately.
Hunters.
The leader stepped forward.
"Kael."
Kael's expression hardened.
"You should have stayed hidden."
The hunter looked at Ethan.
"So the prophecy was true."
Ethan stood beside Kael.
"Who are you?"
The hunter smiled.
"We are the ones who ended the last werewolf war."
Ethan's eyes narrowed.
"And now you want to end me?"
The hunter raised his weapon.
"No."
He looked at the moon.
"We want to see if you become the hero from the prophecy..."
A dark smile appeared beneath his mask.
"...or the monster that destroys us all."
The forest exploded into chaos.
Ethan felt the wolf inside him awaken.
But this time, he did not fear it.
He accepted it.
Because if he wanted to survive...
He needed to understand the beast within.
To be continued...
