Chapter 2 The Little Things

"Sometimes, we don't fall for someone all at once.

Sometimes, it happens slowly… through small moments we don't even notice at first."

After that day, I tried to convince myself that Arav Mehta was just another classmate.

A new student.

A person who had joined our school and would eventually become a normal part of my everyday life.

At least, that's what I told myself.

But somehow, every morning, I found myself looking towards the classroom door, wondering if he had arrived yet.

And whenever he walked in, I hated how easily my attention shifted towards him.

It was strange.

I barely knew him.

Yet somehow, his presence felt familiar.

"Anaya, you're doing it again," my friend whispered one day.

I looked at her. "Doing what?"

She smiled mischievously. "Looking at him."

I immediately looked down at my notebook.

"I wasn't."

"Sure," she replied, trying not to laugh.

I ignored her and started writing, but a small smile appeared on my face without permission.

Maybe she was right.

Maybe I was starting to notice him a little too much.

Days passed, and Arav slowly became a part of our classroom.

Not in a dramatic way.

He wasn't the loudest person in the room or someone who tried to get everyone's attention.

He was actually the opposite.

He was calm.

Quiet.

The kind of person who didn't need to speak loudly to be noticed.

One afternoon, our teacher assigned us a group project.

And somehow, by a coincidence I still remember, Arav ended up being my partner.

"Looks like we're working together," he said with a small smile.

For a moment, I forgot how to reply.

"Yeah… I guess we are," I finally answered.

That was the first proper conversation we ever had.

And honestly?

It was nothing extraordinary.

We talked about the project.

We discussed ideas.

We laughed when we couldn't decide what topic to choose.

But for me, it was special.

Because it was the first time I heard him talk directly to me.

The first time I saw his smile up close.

The first time I realized that behind his quiet personality was someone kind and thoughtful.

After school, while walking home, I kept thinking about that conversation.

I wondered why such a small moment felt so important.

Maybe because sometimes, happiness doesn't come from big events.

Sometimes, it comes from simple things.

A conversation.

A smile.

A moment shared with someone who makes an ordinary day feel different.

I didn't know when it happened.

I didn't know how it happened.

But somewhere between those little conversations and unnoticed glances…

Arav Mehta slowly became someone I looked forward to seeing every day.

And the funny thing was…

He probably had no idea.

He didn't know that his small smiles could make my day better.

He didn't know that a simple "hello" from him could stay in my mind for hours.

He didn't know that someone was quietly starting to care.

And maybe…

That was the most beautiful part.

Because at that time, it was just my little secret.

A secret hidden inside my heart.

A feeling that started with a glance…

And was slowly becoming something more.
