Chapter 3 The Conversation We Remember

"Sometimes, the people who become special don't enter our lives with grand moments.

They become special through ordinary conversations… the ones we never want to end."

I never thought a person I barely knew could slowly become such an important part of my everyday life.

But somehow, Arav Mehta did.

It started with small things.

A simple "good morning" when he entered the classroom.

A quick smile when we crossed paths in the hallway.

A small conversation during breaks.

Nothing that would seem special to anyone else.

But for me…

Those little moments meant everything.

Before Arav joined our class, school was just school.

A place where I studied, attended classes, completed assignments, and waited for the day to end.

But after he came…

Somehow, mornings felt different.

I started looking forward to coming to school.

Not because of exams.

Not because of lessons.

But because there was someone who made ordinary days feel a little brighter.

One day during lunch break, I was sitting in the classroom, finishing my notes, when I heard a voice.

"You're always writing something."

I looked up.

It was Arav.

I smiled slightly. "Maybe I just like keeping things organized."

He laughed softly. "I thought you were writing a secret diary."

I looked at him, pretending to be serious.

"Maybe I am."

For a second, he looked surprised.

Then we both laughed.

It was such a small conversation.

But I remember it.

I remember the way he smiled.

I remember how comfortable it felt talking to him.

Like we had known each other for much longer than we actually had.

As days passed, I started discovering little things about him.

Arav wasn't the type of person who tried to impress everyone.

He didn't need attention.

He was kind without showing off.

He helped classmates when they needed it.

He listened when people spoke.

And maybe that was what made him different.

One afternoon, while we were working on our project, he noticed that I was struggling with a part of it.

"You can take my notes if you want," he said.

I looked at him. "But then how will you study?"

"I'll manage," he replied with a smile.

It was such a simple gesture.

But sometimes, the smallest acts of kindness stay with us the longest.

That evening, while sitting near my window, I found myself thinking about him again.

I wondered if he knew how much happiness his little actions brought.

I wondered if he noticed the way my smile appeared whenever we talked.

Probably not.

To him, I was just Anaya.

A classmate.

A friend.

But to me…

He was becoming someone I wanted to know more about.

Someone whose stories I wanted to hear.

Someone whose presence I had started searching for without even realizing it.

And maybe that was when I understood something.

A crush doesn't always begin with a dramatic moment.

Sometimes, it begins quietly.

With conversations.

With laughter.

With little memories collected one by one.

And somewhere between those conversations…

I wasn't just noticing Arav anymore.

I was starting to like him.

— To be continued.
