Echoes of Broken Heart

Echoes of Broken Heart

where the echo began

"Before I knew her name, I knew her

Silence".

Some people arrive in your life with a smile. She arrived with a smile so gentle that it echoed louder than any voice I have heard. Every morning, beneath the old rain-soaked bridge, she stood watching the river as though it carried memories instead of water.

We never spoke. We never even looked at each other for more than a second. Yet somehow, I felt as if the quiet around her and already learned my name.

For thirty-two mornings our lives crossed at

exactly 7:15

She always wore the same sky-blue

backpack

She always spotted for a few moments at the bridge, closed her eyes, and listened not to the music, not to the people, but to the wind

I wonder what she heard...

Perhaps nothing...

Perhaps everything…

I wanted to ask her why she stood there every morning, but some questions felt too beautiful to interrupt.

So I simply watched.

One rainy morning, she wasn't there

The bridge looked the same...

The river flowed the same...

The city woke exactly as it always did...

Yet something was missing...

Only then did I realize that a stranger's silence had quietly become part of my morning.

That evening I found a small white flower resting on the bridge railing.

There was no one around.

Tied to its stem was a tiny folded note.

With trembling fingers, I folded it.

It contained only one sentence.

"Some echoes are meant to be followed."

I looked around.

For the first time, I wasn't searching for the flower.

But for the girl....

The bridge stretched before me, empty except for the whisper of the evening wind. I walked from one end to the other, my eyes searching every passing face. Students hurried home with their bags slung over their shoulders. Office workers disappeared into crowded buses. An old man fed crumbs to a flock of pigeons near the river bank. Everyone seemed to belong somewhere.

Except the girl I was looking for...

I folded the note carefully and slipped it into my wallet without thinking. It was only a piece of paper, yet it suddenly felt too important to throw away. I didn't know why. Maybe because it was the only thing that connected me to a stranger whose silence had quietly become a part of my life.

The night sleep refused to visit me.

The words on the note echoed into my mind.

What did it mean?

Was it meant for me?

The questions lingered longer than the rain outside my window.

The next morning I woke up earlier than usual for the first time in years, I wasn't rushing because of college I was rushing because I wanted answer.

My footsteps quickened has I approached the bridge.

She would be there.

She had to be.

The place where she always stood was empty.

I waited.

5 minutes passed.

Then ten.

Every person who walked toward the bridge made my heartbeat a little faster only to slow again when it wasn't her.

For the first time, I understood how loudly hope could disappoint.

Just as I turned to leave, something caught my eyes.

Another white flower rested on the railing.

And beneath it...

Another note.
