The conference hall fell into complete silence
Every pair of eyes rested on Adrian Brooks.
The divorce agreement lay before him.
A single signature.
That was all it would take to erase three years of marriage.
The expensive fountain pen felt unusually heavy in his hand.
His fingers trembled.
He stared at Evelyn.
She stood quietly beside Damien, her face calm and unreadable.
She wasn't looking at him anymore.
That hurt more than her words ever could.
"Evelyn..." Adrian called softly.
She didn't answer.
"I know I made mistakes."
"I know I hurt you."
"But please... don't do this."
Vanessa stared at him in disbelief.
"Adrian!"
"What are you saying?"
"You said you never loved her!"
He ignored Vanessa completely.
For the first time in years, all he could see was Evelyn.
"I can change."
"I'll end everything with Vanessa."
"We can start over."
The room erupted into whispers.
Even the Brooks family elders looked surprised.
No one had expected Adrian to beg.
Evelyn slowly lifted her eyes to meet his.
A sad smile appeared on her lips.
"You only realized my worth after you lost me."
She took a deep breath.
"For three years, I waited for you to choose me."
"You never did."
"So today..."
"I'm choosing myself."
Her words pierced Adrian's heart.
He remembered every lonely night she had waited for him.
Every birthday he had forgotten.
Every promise he had broken.
He suddenly realized something terrifying.
He had never truly appreciated the woman who loved him without conditions.
Grandfather Brooks slammed his walking stick against the marble floor.
"Enough!"
His sharp voice echoed throughout the hall.
"Adrian Brooks..."
"You disgraced your wife."
"You disgraced this family."
"You will sign those papers."
Adrian lowered his head.
He knew there was no escape.
Slowly...
Painfully...
He signed his name.
The moment the pen left the paper, Evelyn closed her eyes.
She expected to cry.
She expected her heart to shatter.
Instead...
She felt...
Free.
Three years of pain had finally come to an end.
The lawyer collected the signed documents.
"From this moment onward," he announced, "Mr. Adrian Brooks and Mrs. Evelyn Brooks are legally divorced."
The room remained silent.
Damien calmly stood up.
He looked at Evelyn.
"Congratulations."
She looked confused.
"For what?"
"For getting your life back."
Those simple words almost brought tears to her eyes.
No one had ever celebrated her freedom before.
At that moment, Damien took another document from his briefcase.
"I have one more announcement."
Every head turned toward him.
"I've decided to transfer thirty percent of Brooks International Hotel into Evelyn's name."
"What?"
The directors stood up in shock.
"Thirty percent?"
"That's worth hundreds of millions!"
Vanessa's face turned green with jealousy.
Why?
Why would Damien give Evelyn so much?
Evelyn herself was speechless.
"I can't accept this."
Damien looked at her steadily.
"You can."
"My future wife will never depend on anyone."
His voice remained calm, but there was no room for argument.
Before Evelyn could respond, the conference hall doors burst open.
A security guard rushed inside, breathing heavily.
"Mr. Damien!"
"We have a problem!"
Everyone turned toward him.
"What happened?" Damien asked.
The guard swallowed hard.
"Miss Vanessa... has been secretly selling confidential company information to Brooks Group's biggest competitor."
The room exploded.
"What?"
"Impossible!"
Vanessa's face instantly turned white.
"That's a lie!"
The guard placed a thick folder on the table.
"These are bank records."
"Phone records."
"And surveillance photos."
"They were collected this morning."
Adrian grabbed the file with trembling hands.
The more pages he read...
The paler his face became.
Every piece of evidence pointed to one person.
Vanessa.
She hadn't only betrayed Evelyn.
She had betrayed him too.
Adrian slowly looked up.
His eyes were filled with disbelief.
"You..."
"You used me?"
Vanessa took a frightened step backward.
"No..."
"Listen to me..."
But before she could explain, Damien spoke.
"Escort Miss Vanessa out."
"And make sure she never enters another Brooks property again."
Two security guards immediately stepped forward.
Vanessa struggled desperately.
"Adrian!"
"Help me!"
"I love you!"
Adrian didn't move.
He simply stood there, staring at the woman he had sacrificed everything for.
At that moment, he finally understood.
He hadn't lost Evelyn because of Damien.
He had lost her because of his own choices.
As Vanessa's screams faded down the hallway, Damien turned to Evelyn.
"Our engagement party is in three days."
"Are you ready?"
Evelyn took a slow breath.
She looked at the man standing beside her.
Then at the signed divorce papers.
Finally...
She smiled.
"Yes."
Neither of them noticed the cold pair of eyes watching from the balcony above.
A mysterious woman dressed in black quietly closed her phone.
"So..."
"The game has finally begun."
She smiled before disappearing into the shadows.
