Ch 4: The breaking point

The moment didn’t feel dramatic. There were no raised voices, no shattered objects, no visible explosion.

But something broke.

 Quietly. Irreversibly.

It happened in a room full of people, where laughter filled the air and everything seemed normal on the surface.

She stood there, slightly apart, like she always did now.

Present. But never really included.

“And honestly,” someone said, in their tone casual, almost amused, “ She really is a big issue everytime. If she really agrees with many things & her minding so different & if she really care too much… Why don't leave?”

The words landed softly. But they echoed loudly inside her.

Her heart stopped. For a second, everything blurred.

She didn’t look at them. She looked at someone.

Waiting. Hoping. Begging without saying a word to that someone to react.

To say something. To stop it. To openly confront those words.

But there was hesitation as it really not easy she knows it.

Because it was what she seen before too.

And that hesitation said everything.

She felt it then the last thread holding her together snapping without warning.

Not because of what they said. But because of what someone didn't & what other someone believed without asking her for once what truth is.

That night, the silence between them was different.

Not calm. Not peaceful. Just… empty.

“I gave my everything,” she said finally, her voice steady in a way that surprised even her.

Someone looked at her, something uneasy flickering in eyes. “Why are you saying that again?”

She took a slow breath.

“Do I still get to be remembered?”

“Stop this crap”

“And loved?” she continued, her voice softer now. “Even if I’m done?”

“Done with that?” someone asked, frustration creeping in. “Why are you acting like this?”

She ignored the question. Because this wasn’t sudden. It had been building for a long time.

“And when I’m gone will someone look for me & remember me?”

“You’re not making any sense.”

She nodded slightly “I know.”

"You should stay, those who still loves you."

She almost laughed, a scoffs that holds many unsaid words

“One last thing,” she whispered.

“Will they protect me?”

The question lingered but there was No clear ans of it.

She smiled softly, but it didn’t reach her eyes.

“I’ll wait,” she said as her final words.

“For what?” someone asked her.

“For the version of both of them who doesn’t hesitate,” she replied.

A tear slipped down her cheek, but she didn’t wipe it away.

“I’m not leaving because I stopped loving bot..”

Her voice trembled slightly.

“I’m leaving because there is hesitation about to believe my words as well. And where there is hesitation there is hesitation of love & care too."

And then

Without another word, she walked away.

Not dramatically. Not loudly.

Just…completely.

And this time she didn’t look back.
