The cool night air rushed between them as the heavy glass doors of the clinic swung shut, but it did nothing to cut through the suffocating heat radiating from Kurogane. The sleek, black sedan waited like a silent predator at the curb, its tinted windows gleaming beneath the streetlights.
"What do you want from me, you pervert jerk?"
Takeru took a sharp step backward, twisting his shoulder out from under Kurogane’s heavy grip. His hands clutched the strap of his tote bag so tightly that his knuckles turned white, his eyes flashing with a mix of blinding fury and raw, survivalist instinct.
Kurogane Ren didn't react with anger. Instead, his smirk only broadened, deep and devastatingly handsome, as he slowly pulled Takeru’s university ID card from his inner jacket pocket. He held the small, laminated square between his long index and middle fingers, casually twirling it like a magician displaying a prize.
"Do me a favor if you want this back," Kurogane murmured, stepping forward to close the distance Takeru had just created. His voice was low, carrying a dark, velvety weight that made Takeru’s breath hitch. "Or else..."
A sudden gust of wind swept through the courtyard, rustling the hem of Kurogane’s expensive, dark-grey coat. For a fraction of a second, the heavy fabric lifted, revealing the dull, matte-black steel of a customized firearm resting securely in a shoulder holster against his crisp white dress shirt.
Takeru’s stomach dropped into a bottomless abyss.
He wasn't stupid. He was a veterinary student who spent his days studying anatomy and precision surgery; he understood how fragile a human body was. This man was a walking threat, a syndicate boss who moved in shadow and violence. If Takeru caused a scene here, if he tried to scream for Dr. Yamamori or bolt down the street, Kurogane wouldn't hesitate to pull the strings that would erase Takeru’s entire life. He could ruin his academic career, target his university, or worse, put a bullet through him before he even cleared the parking lot.
Running away wasn't an option anymore. The net had already been cast, and Takeru was firmly trapped inside it.
Takeru’s posture slowly slumped, the fiery resistance in his chest dimming into a cold, heavy resignation. He forced his hands to loosen on his bag, looking down at his worn sneakers resting on the damp pavement.
"...What do you want?" Takeru whispered, his voice trembling slightly despite his best efforts to keep it steady.
Kurogane stepped closer—so close that the toes of his polished leather dress shoes almost touched Takeru’s sneakers. He reached out, his long, calloused fingers gently cupping Takeru’s chin and tilting his head upward until their eyes met. His touch wasn't gentle out of kindness; it was possessive, absolute, and suffocating.
"Smart boy," Kurogane purred, his icy blue eyes gleaming with an unhinged, dangerous fondness. "I like it when my pet know when to yield."
"I'm not your pet," Takeru muttered through gritted teeth, though he didn't dare pull his chin away from Kurogane's grip.
"You patched me up, stitched my skin, and saved my life," Kurogane said, his thumb brushing over Takeru's lower lip, tracing the soft curve with an eerie, rhythmic stroke. "In my line of work, little doctor, once you put your hands on something that belongs in the dark, you don't get to walk back into the light. You marked me...and now, you're mine."
Kurogane leaned down, his lips brushing the shell of Takeru’s ear as he spoke, sending an icy shiver down the younger man's spine.
"What do I want? Quite simple. My primary physician was killed in the ambush last night. I need a talented doctor who can keep his mouth shut, handle blood without flinching, and treat wounds that officially don't exist. You're coming with me."
Takeru’s eyes widened in horror. "I’m a veterinary student! I treat cats and dogs, not mafia enforcers with bullet holes!"
"Anatomy is anatomy, sweetheart," Kurogane chuckled, a low, rumble vibrating through his chest. "Besides, you handled my stitches better than half the trauma surgeons in this city. But more importantly, I like looking at you. I like the way you glare at me. And I certainly intend to keep a very close eye on those feisty little feet of yours."
Kurogane pulled back slightly, his expression shifting into something intensely possessive—the look of a man who had found a rare, fragile toy and had no intention of ever sharing it with the world.
He slipped the ID card back into his coat pocket, right beside the hidden gun, and reached out to grasp Takeru’s wrist. His grip was an iron shackle wrapped in silk.
"Get in the car, Takeru," Kurogane commanded softly, his voice leaving no room for negotiation. "Your new life starts tonight."
Takeru looked at the dark windows of the sedan, then back at Kurogane’s handsome, terrifying face. He knew he was walking straight into the lion's den—a world of blood, criminal syndicates, and a dangerously obsessed mafia boss who looked at him like he was his absolute world.
Swallowing down the lump of fear in his throat, Takeru allowed himself to be led toward the open door of the vehicle.
