Ch 5: Pink Ice Cream

Aarav, Prajakta and Varun returned to home from school. Varun was surprised to see his grandma Venkat's mother. He run towards Grandma "Grandma, I miss you"

"I miss you too Varun" and planted kiss on his forehead

Sheela said "Mom, Aarav is the boy we adopted"

Grandma said "You already have two children. What is the need to adopt a new boy?"

Aarav came with Prajakta to the living room. Aarav greeted Grandma "Hello Grandma"

Grandma said sarcastically "You are one who upset my grandson. I don't know what you did to my son. He wants to adopt you. I heard from Varun, you even made him to apologise to you. You came here to suck our blood."

Aarav's face looks so dull. Sheela said "Prajakta take Aarav upstairs. I will talk to Grandma"

Venkat entered the home and said "Maa, You like it or not. He is going to stay here and don't be mean to small boy"

"Son, You are supporting for some stranger boy"

"If you don't like it, you can leave the house" Sheela muttered to her husband "Venkat" Venkat looks at her  wife. She shakes her head.

Venkat left the place. Grandma thinks "I will make you suffer here Aarav"

Prajakta came out from the washroom after showering. She looked for Aarav in her room and Varun's room. She didn't find him anywhere. She went to the rooftop and saw Aarav holding his parents' picture and crying.

Prajakta called him "Aarav, I am looking for you all over the house. What are you doing here?"

He wiped his tears and hid the picture of his parents in his back packet and pretended to be alright. Prajakta continued "I know Grandma was so mean to you. Don't worry, let's go to my room. There are so many mosquitoes biting me."

Aarav said "I will come after some time"

Prajakta said "I am not going anywhere without you" and held his hand and dragged him to her room. "You stay here, I will be back in a minute. Okay"

Aarav nods his head

Prajakta ran to the kitchen and looked around and took a box of ice-cream from the refrigerator and went to her room "Da da."

Aarav asked "What's this?"

"It's my favourite pink Ice Cream, I bought it for you"

Aarav smiled when she said 'Pink Ice cream' "I don't want"

Sheela came to check on Aarav and stopped at the doorstep after seeing Prajakta consoling Aarav.

Prajakta took a spoon of ice-cream towards his mouth and asked him to say  "ahhh" and said  "I always have ice cream whenever I am sad. It make my mood delightful"

Aarav looks at her and opened his mouth "Ahh" and Prajakta fed him "Is it good?"

She continued "My grandma always supports my brother. When I broke the glass accidentally, she scolded me very badly and my mother" and imitated Grandma. "How careless are you? Your mother didn't teach you anything. I almost cried"

Aarav and Prajakta had a full box of ice cream while talking. Aarav said "Thank you"

Prajakta said "I will be there for you. You don't have to worry about my grandma's words"

Sheela went to the kitchen and bought two plates of food for Aarav and Prajakta. Sheela called "Prajakta,..." she quickly hides her ice-cream behind her back.

Sheela looked at Prajakta "What are you hiding from me?"

Prajakta smiled "I didn't hide anything mom"

Sheela wiped her ice-cream around her mouth "I know you took a box of ice cream from the refrigerator and ate it with Aarav. Now it's time for dinner"

Prajakta smiled "Maa, Don't tell my brother. He will be angry, if he knows. Aarav is upset. Look at his face. So, I bought ice cream for cheer him up"

Sheela caresses her hair "Fine, I won't tell him. Now have Chapati. Both of you" and she left the room.

Prajakta looked at the plate and then she called "Aarav, I can't eat 2 Chapati. I ate half a bowl of ice-cream with you."

Aarav caresses her hair "Don't worry, I will eat the rest. Mom, will not find you wasted food"

Prajakta smiled and ate one chapati and gave the other one to Aarav.

Aarav said "By the way, it's strawberry ice cream not pink Ice Cream"
