Chapter 4: Hit it where it hurts the most

Marie's POV

"What the hell?", I wispered as I stared the arrogant bastard in the eyes. I was shock to the point where I could hardly blink.

"M this is my friend, Jerrique", Jim said smiling at me.

I struggled to to keep a welcoming face but I managed to offer a handshake, " Hello! Nice to..... meet you", I gave my best fake smile, neither of us removing our eyes from each other.

I wondered if he would take my hand, but I didn't want to embarrass Jim.

He smirked and extend his hand," Hi Marie".

I withdrew my hand quickly because I felt the arrows he was throwing at me with his eyes.

" Well since we all know each other now., you two can get to know each other better", Jim said resuming his post as the griller for the day.

The guy/Jerrique watched Jim walked away then his face became chiseled and angry.

" what... are ...you ..doing ..here counter clerk?, he said while taking a step closer to me.

I felt pissed immediately and began to walk away, but he grabbed me and pulled me towards him,"I said what..are..you..doing.. here?"

"That's none of you're damn business", I replied and tried to pull away, "now let me go before I..."

'....before you what?", he cut me off. I just raised my knee and let him have it. Nothing like a good knee to the groin, gets them every time. He released me and I walked away leaving him in grave pain.

I ran into the house and found somewhere quiet to release my tears. Men, why are they like this like they were programmed to hurt women. First Dan dumped me and now this, some crazy guy wanting my head. I wiped my eye into my shirt and brought back the memory of me and Dan together personalizing our shirts to wear to out friends party. I cried even harder and a few minutes later the door open revealing Abby and she ran to my aid...

Jerrique's POV

Its the first time that I've ever been kneed in the groin. I could barely walk to the chair to sit. When she looked at me with those eyes trying to make me feel inferior. Damn it!! Its the first a girl ever challenged me.

My eyes were roaming through the crowd when I saw her looking all snobby like anyone would fall for that. They were walking towards Jim. I examined her figure, well I'll be damned, she has curves...

Marie's POV.

Abbey running to me knelt to my level, and hugged me, " what's wrong?", she asked. "You look like a mess".

I just cried so more, "hey what ever it is we can talk about it later but first we've got to get you cleaned up first", she persisted, "let me take you home".

She helped me to get myself together . Then we walked over to Ben and bid him goodbye.

"So early girls", he asked.

Abby grabbed him and explained, "its an emergency".

"Well in that case I'll let you guys off the hook", he smiled.

"OK ok', I replied

She took me home and led me towards the house. I opened the door and she invited herself in.

"Explain!", she said, "and by the way where is Dan? I haven't heard you mention him all day".

With the mention of his name I started crying again and she understood immediately. "That bastard, what did he do?, she asked so I just told her everything.

"I'm sorry M, but you're gona have to get yourself together", she replied.

She ended up staying the night at my house and that night I knew what I wanted to do about my life because I can't let Dan control my life even when he's not here anymore.

I woke up to the smell of coffee. I sat up and remembered that Abby spent the night.

"Finally you're wake", she greeted me as she walked into the room with a tray.

"Breakfast in bed, what a surprise!", I laughed, " who are you and what have you done with Abby?".

She placed the tray on the bed," even morons like you deserve to be pampered sometime"....

We talked and laughed and that made me felt better.

While helping Abby to do the dishes I felt a bit awkward the whole time because I know she won't like what I have to say ...but I managed to say in an almost inaudible tone,

"Abby I'm leaving town".
