1. The project

A smart person once said "The smarter you get the less you speak." I don't know who was that smart person, but he just explained why all of my classmates are so loud.

Normally, I wouldn't even mind. But we're literally in the middle of a class! Is this normal? Do people in public schools always do this? Do they not understand what the breaks in between the classes are for?

Because of their chatter I could barely hear what the english teacher was saying. All I got was that we apparently will have to do a group project. And that's about it.

Not long after, the bell rang and the class was done, just like that. I waited for everyone to leave the class, before walking up to the teacher.

"Hello, miss Paterson. I'm sorry to bother you, but I couldn't hear you properly. What is the project about and am I allowed to do it alone?" I asked once I got near the teacher's table.

" Oh, Nadetta. Yes, the class was pretty loud today. For the project, you have to work in a group of four people. You all have to pick a writer, who you think has the right to be called the greatest of all time, " she checked her notepad before answering. "And no, you are not allowed to work alone. You are supposed to do the work with Nash, Justin and Hailey."

"Is there no way I could do it alone? I wo-" I started speaking before the teacher cut me off. Pretty rude, no?

" No. Absolutely not. Now go." she waved me off. Once again, pretty rude. But I obligated and walked out of the room.

I was walking down the hall, when I suddenly started hearing someone calling my name. At first, I chose to ignore it. I needed to get to my next class, can't stop just because someone wants to talk to me.

But after a few steps, I realized that my name calling wasn't stopping. So I did something that would probably make me regret my actions later. I stopped.

Soon after, a girl ran up to me. As soon as she reached me, she bent down, trying to catch her breath as if she just ran a marathon.

"Phew, I thought I would never catch you." the girl said, looking up to me from her bent down position. "I'm Hailey. One of your partners."

"Yes. I got that." I blinked at her. "Can I help you?"

"Well, obviously, we need to do the project. So if you want, you can come sit with me and my friends during lunch and we can discuss the project." she smiled, finally standing up straight. When standing straight she's about two inches taller than me, so her action made me look up to her green eyes.

" That's unnecessary." I took a step back." I can do the project and you can sign it. I don't even mind. And for your invitation to sit with you and your friends, I kindly decline. I prefer to sit by myself, not in the lunch room." I gave her a fake smile before walking off.

"Wait!" she continued following me. "It would be unfair if we'd make you do all the work. You may be really smart, but there's stuff that we can add, too!"

"Of course you can! Your signature." I, once again, fake smiled while looking over my shoulder.

"No! You, can ignore us all you want after the project. But now, you're sitting with us and we're discussing this project." Hailey was starting to sound very unhappy.

"Girl, do I need to get you a dictionary for you to understand what the word "no" means?!"

" OK. Let's make a deal. If you come to sit with us today and discuss with us the project, we can let you do half the project all by yourself and we will not add or take away anything from your part."

I sighed. People like this honestly annoy me so much. But, her deal does sound good. Atleast half of the project would be great.

" I feel like if I said no you'd follow me to my classroom. And then you wold be waiting for me after it finishes. So I will take you up o. that deal. I will come to your lunch table today." I gave in. Honestly, how bad can it be?

As I said, me stopping is making me regret my actions right now.
