A sleepover in waiting.

“What?!” Henry yelled in confusion and surprise.

“Well, you always walk home alone and I thought, well you might want to walk home with someone,” I said in a calm, low and very worried voice.

Henry looked like he was going to punch me after what I just said.

“Are you taking pity on me?” He asked with his voice starting to turn into an angry tone.

“Uhhhhhh, so which way is your house?” Avoiding the question because I was taking pity on him... well sort of.

From that day on, me and Henry started walking home together every day after school. After that, we started to have a love-hate friendship, but in a way, it was like we were close friends. People thought that it was weird because he had a short temper, always picking fights, and was rude to people all the time. While I am the soft, kind, apologetic, clumsy type but even with that, we made being friends it worked, or so I thought. It had been four months since henry and I became friends and got to know each other more, but I would soon find out that that is not the truth. Later around 4:00-4:50 pm school had just ended and Henry and I were on our way home.

“Hey so now that we’re friends and we walk each other home every day after school maybe I could stay at your house for tonight?”

I said hoping that he would say yes. I had never been inside Henry’s house. He was very protective of his things and would not let anyone near his bag or locker at school. Because of this it made me think what his house looked like but I didn't think of it much then.

“Are you ok? You've never asked me to …. Stay over before?” Henry said with a worried expression like something was really wrong.

I look at him with a face of confusion and said to him,

“well you know I just kind of wanted to see what the inside of your house looks like and have a sleepover with you like friends do,”

I answered trying to make a good point for him to agree by using a sad puppy dog face. I know it might sound weird for a troublemaker but Henry really liked animals and could not say no to them so I thought this would work, or at least help him say yes.

“who said we were friends, and anyway what’s a sleepover?” Henry looked at me with a confused face.

I was so stupid that him saying we weren't friends at the time rushed by my mind all I could think about was how he asked what a sleepover is.

“WHAT are you kidding? You don’t know what a sleepover is?! Now you have to let me stay over at your house," I said surprised that he did not know what a sleepover is.

“Ok ok fine but, when you come into my house just know that it's a little different from other houses. It’s because of my uncle and brother, not me though,” Henry said while trying to calm me down cause people were staring.

"Thank you thank you thank..... wait we're not friends?"

I started to feel like a bouquet of arrows just stabbed me in the back. Why was I so attached to this? Why did those words hurt me so hard? Of course we were not friends yet we've only known each other for a few months but, why did I get so sad then. That doesn't matter now, what matters is that I am going to show him that we can be friends.

“Well we barely know each other, how could I say we are friends but that's not important right now ok,” Henry said.

“You know sometimes I can't stand you,'' I said to Henry in a joking way.

“Ha ha, very funny,” Henry said.

I noticed what Henry had said about how he said his house is different but I ignored it and thought it was something about his culture or religious beliefs if he was even in one but I would see that was not at all what he was saying.
