Saying goodbye

After the bell ran all of the villagers went outside but it was very quiet still. Everyone gathered at the front gate so Zane had to hide. Everyone was wearing black and crying. Zane started to wonder what was going on when he noticed that there were fewer guards at the gate. He looked around and saw the king and queen walk out of the castle and behind them was a casket carried by the guards.

Zane backed up in disbelief and soon after saw the prince behind them all. The guards let everyone in to the castle and they were all led to the garden. Zane stood in the back of the crowd and was being quiet and trying not to be seen. Everyone sat down in chairs and the queen and king were up on a stage. The prince was standing in the back next to two body guards. Zane decided to stand behind the bush next to them and was hoping not to be noticed.

The prince turned around and looked at Zane who instantly hid in the bush making his leg worse. He held in a small wince of pain and brushed it off. The prince went over to zan and helped him up, “don’t hide, you’re the boy that Abi talked about before she went. She liked you and said that you were kind enough to help her, a total stranger.”

“T-thanks but I don’t want to be bothered, she was my only friend..”

“Oh.” The prince sat down next to Zane and hugged him, “would you like to live in the castle? It could help you by having the things she loved and wanted to give you.” Zane nodded and the prince helped him back obto his feet. Zane looked at the bodyguards and was focusing on the taller male that stood in front of him.

Zane blushed slightly as the taller male walked over and helped him brush leaves off of himself.

The prince decided to sneak out that night and meet Zane. When he found Zane he was on his way to the castle with the princess favorite flower. He was let inside and went over to the princesses grave and planted the flower in her mini garden, “I promise to take care of you my friend.”

The prince was touched by the loyalty of his sisters friend and went next to him and hugged him. Zane started to cry a little and the prince did the same. As Zane and the prince were in the garden walking around and looking at the flowers Zane had a great idea, “can I bring you somewhere?”

“Sure, how far away is it?”

“Don’t worry it won’t take long.”

Zane took the prince to the stables that were in town because he knew that an old friend would still be awake. As they went into the stables the prince was looking at all of the animals, they went to the back and saw a cute little foal playing in the hay bales.

Zane walked over to the little foal and it jumped on him. Zane was laughing and played with the foal for a moment, “come on please take us there your papa’s asleep.”

The foal nodded and helped Zane up then took them to the front of the barn and grew to a bigger size so that they could both fit on its back. Zane hopped on and the prince was left in surprise.

Zane held out his hand to help the prince up, “come on, it’s a long ride.”

“O-ok.”

The prince got on the back of the horse and held onto Zane tightly. Zane still had a broken leg and the prince noticed, the prince looked up at Zane worried.

On their way to the forest the prince was relaxing. They got to the top of the hill and the horse stopped. The prince thought it was ok to get off but Zane stopped him from moving and speaking, “stop. Don’t move and hold onto me tightly..”

The prince got scared and did as Zane told him too. Out from the forest came the kingdoms one and only downside…. The monsters.

The monsters that emerged from the forest were grousum, they had long nails and dripping faces, they were walking slowly and didn’t notice Zane and the prince. The monsters look like they had just eaten and were still hungry, they were staggering a they walked because they had gotten hurt.

The monsters all looked around and Zane could tell that they were all half dead. One bite or scratch could mean certain death from these monsters. Zane waited a moment, a new monster emerged and was bigger than the others.

This monster had patches that were empty from skin and all you could see was bone. Two spots had no skin and no meat and all you could see were the spine and tail bones. The monster looked catlike and had sharp fangs. Zane could tell that it was much stronger than the rest.

The prince wanted to scream and run but he knew that Zane knew what he was doing. A moment later Zane had the horse moving at full speed. The prince looked confused and scared, “WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!”

All of the monster looked in their direction, “you idiot I told you not to make a sound now one of us is dead unless we get to the forest.”

Zane was really focused on getting them to the safe spot and he didn’t notice a monster jump out of a bush and scratch the princes leg. The prince covered his leg and when they got to the safe spot the prince fell off of the horse and was very pale.

Zane jumped off of the horse and hurt his leg more. He turned around to the prince and hurried to help him, a claw was stuck in the princes leg putting more poison into his blood stream. Zane tied off the princes leg so the poison wouldn’t spread, “be careful and don’t move too much. The monsters will go away in a little while, I’m sorry I brought you here, I forgot that it was a full moon tonight.”

When morning came they went back to the castle and the prince was returned to the castle guards. Zane was set free from the kings wrath because the prince asked for it to be so. A few hours later the prince was announced dead to the whole kingdom, “the prince is dead due to the monsters in the forest, who would be dumb enough to go into the forest at night on a full moon.” Is what Zane heard all day long.

At night Zane snuck into the kingdoms and went to the garden to leave a moon rose at the princes grave, “I’m so sorry..”
