But Have You Read This Yet?

chapter 1

Dimas slowly inhaled and then exhaled through his mouth. This is it. The day he will go registered himself to be an adventurer.

He'd already brimmed with indecision this past week over it, but he'd finally reaffirmed his resolve yesterday.

He is going to go against his grandfather wishes to be an [Alchemist] just like him and continued to watch over his shop.

Even though he loves his grandfather to death, he still wanted to forged his own path in the world.

And in order to do that, he'd decided to became an adventurer.

So, today he wore his best clothes, a primarily dark red colored shirt with a white and black oval shaped decorations crisscrossed it's surface diagonally. It's something called Fabric of Enchantment. If the name haven't clued you in yet, the shirt is made by a [Weaver] and an [Enchanter], or someone with both Class.

It's enchanted to be resistance to both piercing and slashing attack. Because it's made of just fabric, it really light in weight. So, it's became the favourite of many adventurer. Of course, it's rather expensive, so not many people own it, at least at the start.

Dimas is luckier than most, his grandfather can afford it. He'd asked for it at his sixtenth birthday and although suspicious regarding Dimas' intention, his grandfather still bought it for him. He is kind like that.

As for the pants, he wore a black pants with a brown belt where he'd fastened a small bag for storing things. It's only an ordinary bag, though. His grandfather's generousity didn't extended that far.

Also, he'd stowed a knife on his belt for his weapon of choice. He is more inclined toward it than sword because he felt more familiar wielding a knife. All that time helping his grandfather cutting alchemical ingredients is not for nothing.

While he is busy fastening the crisscrossing section of his sandals that goes up his knees, the sound of someone clearing their throat startling him.

Looking back, Dimas had to swallowed his nervousness. Because there, standing imposingly in the doorway with his arms crossed over his chest, is his grandfather.

Even though the hair on his head is already entirely turning grey and his face is full of wrinkles, his piercing gaze is still frightening him sometimes. Sighing, the man uncrossed his arms and joined Dimas sitting in their two-storey home's front steps.

Dimas'd deliberately choosed to leaving the house while he is busy concocting his potions. But apparently it's didn't worked as well as he'd hoped.

"Not even saying goodbye to your old man, Dimas?" His disappointed gaze as if burned him to the core.

"Ah, I thought you wouldn't agree, so..." Dimas said sheepishly.

"Well," said the old man, "If became an adventurer is what you wanted, then so be it."

"Uh..." Dimas is unsure what he'd to say.

Throwing a small smile, "Here," he said, thrusting a small vial filled with red liquid toward Dimas. "A Healing Potion, you'll need it."

Finished, he clapped Dimas' shoulder and then slowly walking into the house and closed the door.

"Good luck." He said.

Putting the potion in his bag, Dimas throw one last look at his home. Then, he is off to the Adventurer's Guild of Wijava.

The city of Wijaya is located in the continent of Jaya. It's considerably small city, at least compared to the other city of Kingdom of Mahalhit. It's tucked in the corner near the border with the kingdom of Lemark.

Even though it's small, the inhabitans is prospered because it is the main trade routes between the two kingdom. The lands around the city is also fertile, so the side of the city that faced the capital is surrounded by fields of rice.

And one other thing, it is also the location of the newly discovered dungeon. It is what actually convinced Dimas to finally became an adventurer. Dungeon is usually full of treasures and powerful artifacts. And this one is new, so there's still many things just laying around waiting for their new owners to claim it.

So it was with that hopeful thought Dimas entered the Adventurer's Guild. This is the vey first time he ever set foots on this building, having no reason to previously.

It is a two-storey building near the plaza in the middle of the city. On it's front door posted a sign that read 'Adventurer's Guild' on a graceful script. Inside, the first thing you see is the receptionest' desk placed on a straight line opposite the door. On it's left is another door and on it's right is stairs that goes up to the second floor. There is a queue in front of it. That left a wide area for many round tables scattered across the room filled with adventurers. There is also a board where people can posted a request for adventur to fulfilled.

Choosing a shorter line, Dimas joined other peoples in front of the desk. One by one they concluded their bussiness and the line just getting shorter, until finally it is Dimas' turn.

"Hello, how can I help you?" The [Receptionist] asked kindly. She have a long black hair that tied into a high ponytail and her black eyes crinkled in smiles.

"I, um, I'm, registering?" Dimas cringed in embarrassment, the last words came out more like a question. This is why he'd hesitated for so long, he is not good with people, especially stranger. As can be attested by how he can't quite looked the lady in the eyes.

She blinked, but kept smiling and continued, "Name?" She said in-between taking out a piece of paper and a pen.

"D-Dimas." He stammered.

"Age?"

"S-seventeen."

"Class?"

"I-I don't, I don't have one y-yet."

That got a raised eyebrow. People usually obtained their first Class at thirteen at the earliest and fifteen at the latest. Dimas who is unsure of what he wanted to be and only ever half-heartedly helping his grandfather never got any Class. He'd hoped that maybe they can help him.

"I'm sorry, we can't registered people without a Class." She spoke. At her words Dimas' is a little crestfallen.

"But, don't worry," the [Receptionist] quickly added after seeing Dimas' expression. "We can help you get a Class, at a price."

Dimas' brightened face immediately dullled. She pitied him a little, but policy is policy.

"W-what sort of Class?" He enquired and hoped they at least give him a good Class.

"Well, we can instruct you to be a [Warrior], [Archer], and [Rogue]. Each one is two silver and fifty copper." She explained.

Thankfully Dimas still have five silver on his saving, so he can afford it.

As far as he knows, [Warrior] is a Class that specialized in close quarter combat and usually wearing heavy armour. [Warrior] or variant of that Class is also largely the fronts and leaders of many adventurer's teams. And as a leader they must've to talking with people a lot.

On the other hand, [Archer] as the name implied is the one who are using bows and shooting arrows. They're specialized in long-range combat. The high-leveled one is usually using enchanted arrows. If he choosing this Class, he would've to buying many, many arrows.

Whereas [Rogue] is the one who moved quickly and stealthily, have a tendency to suddenly disappeared, and covering their faces. They also didn't talk much.

So, [Rogue] it is.
