After Dimas told the [Receptionist] of what Class he'd chosen and payed the advance money, she led him to their walled-off backyard through the door on the side of the desk. But not before telling the other [Receptionist] that, "Rini, I'm going to bring this one to the backyard and fetching the [Instructor]. Please, cover for me for a while."
The one that she'd addressed, Rini, just nodded back in reply.
She left him in the middle of the backyard. "Wait here for a moment," she said. "It's not going to take long, the [Instructor] lived just nextdoor."
While he is alone, he busied himself with observing his surrounding. There is open field for training or sparing, a few dummy and shooting target put on the side alongside the wall. Wooden benches also scattered around with a few rack filled with varying weapons.
Thankfully, it is currently empty of people.
Suddenly, the door opened with a bang and entered a man with a cane limping inside. "So you're the lad Laila told me about," he said. "Wanna be an adventurer, without even a single Class, huh? You sure you have what it takes?"
"Y-yes." Stammered Dimas.
"Say it with more spirit!" He shouted.
"Y-yes!
The moustached man quietly staring at him with narrowed eyes. Dimas fidgeted.
"[Rogue]!" He suddenly shouted. "Always queit, quick stepped, and attacking from behind. Unheard. Unseen. Knives slick with poison."
He gave the impression that if he could, he would be moving back and forth while he is explaining.
"Today I am to be your [Instructor] and you would obey! Understand?!"
"Y-yes!" While he is unsure at first about who is this brusque man that shouted at him, that words convinced him regarding his identity.
"Right, just do as I say, and tomorrow you would be a proud [Rogue]," said the [Instructor]. "First thing first! How to be quiet. Now, the very basic, watch where you walk! Don't step on anything that would make a loud sound, like dry leaves!
"Second, notice your surrounding! You don't want a snapped twig or two alerted your prey of your presence. Third, keep your body close to the ground! Fourth, place the toe of your foot down first and slowly, gently roll your foot toward your heel and onto the ground! And keep your hands close to your body!"
Stopped to take a breath, he continued, "Now, you do it till you could move queitly!"
Dimas tried as best as he could to following as instructed. But apparently it is not enough, because the [Instructor] soon called out to him, "Come here, lad!"
When he is close enough, thwack! Dimas got smacked by the man's cane. "Do it again," he ordered. "And do it right this time!"
After many unsuccessful attempts and beatings later, Dimas finally wisened up and decided to divesting his sandals.
This time his attempts pleased the [Instructor]. However, "Alright, that's good enough, now do it while running."
Dimas can't help but groaned, but did as he is told. The cycle repeated again untill Dimas mastered the steps.
"Good, good. Rest, and get comfortable, I'm sure you'll get the Class now. I have somewhere to be, so I'll be off." The [Instructor] remarked and limping away. Leaving Dimas alone again, sitting on a bench.
Dimas didn't even get his name.
[Rogue Level One!]
[Skill: Quiet Step!]
Ah, finally he can be registering as an adventurer properly.
He mused that he must've been gotten the skill from his prior attempt. The skill appeared to be a passive skill, so he doesn't needed to consciously kept himself from making any unnecessary noises.
Even though usually the first skill that someone obtained from their Classess is rather weak, he is still grateful for it nonetheless.
Getting up, Dimas strode back inside and went over to the [Receptionist]'s desk.
"Hello again," she said. Dimas remembered that that no-nonsense [Instructor] called her Laila. "Already got your Class?" Laila continued.
Dimas inclined his head in confirmation.
"Well, good," she remarked. "I've completed your form, so you're now officially is an adventurer. You can now get ranked, using Adventurer's Guild's services such as taking a quest, and selling and buying raw materials. As well as any misconduct you commit as a member of the Adventurer's Guild will be punished as befitted the actions, do you understand?"
"Y-yes, I un-understand." He stammered a reply.
"Currently, you're assigned as an F-ranked adventurer, wich is the lowest rank, which can be ascended to E, D, C, B, A, with S as the upper limit. Quest is also assigned the same rank and you can only take a quest which is one point lower or above your rank, excepted unusual circumstances, such as misinformation of difficulties, direct request from clients, or you are being conscripted to fight or protecting against individuals, beings, or organizations that seek to harm and destroy the city of Wijaya."
Inhaling deeply she spoke, "Okay, any questions?"
Dimas shaking his head in denial, "N-no, miss."
"You're a quiet one, aren't you?" Laila observed, staring at him amusedly.
Dimas just throw her a weak smile in respone.
Sighing, she drew a few papers from the little cabinets underneath the desk. "This here is a copy of some of the F-ranked and E-ranked quests that we've got, the rest is in there," she pointed to the board on the side wall before rifling through the papers. "Let's see, one for gathering 30 Sirih for a [Herbalist], cleaning the sewer from Slimes infestation, Old Man Hadri need someone to accompanied him fishing, killing Mondok Rats in the rice fields, and Sirih again, for an [Alchemist] this time.
"So, which one is it?" The [Receptionist] enquired. "Or maybe you want to browse the board instead?"
Dimas mused the questions for a while. On one hand, he knew of Sirih, his grandfather used it to make the Healing Potions and apparently [Herbalists] also used it for something. But, he didn't signed up as an adventurer to gather some plants.
On the other hand, he really didn't want to go to the sewer if he can help it. On the metaphorical third hand, fishing sound boring.
And, on the metaphorical fourth hand...
"W-what's a Mondok R-rats?"
"Oh!" Laila exclaimed. "It's like the usual rats, just.. bigger, and furless, and also have sharp claws and teeth..." she trailed up at the end. "Okay, a little different, but still a pest just the same, trust me, the [Farmers] really hates them."
"I-I'll take the quest." Dimas said.
"The rats?" The black haired woman asked for clarification. Dimas nodded.
"You sure? It's actually E-rank," asked Laila again. Dimas nodded again.
"Very well. When you completed the quest, you'll need to either confess under a Truth Spell, Truth Stone or bring proof of your kills to get the reward. In this case, the tails will do," she remarked. "Plus, you can also sell the tails in here or elsewhere if you want."
Dimas inclined his head and hurried outside after thanked her, still barefooted.
