Packin' Up!

Although I was feeling better after the shopping trip I still wasn't in the mood to talk to my parents, especially my mom, so I grabbed my bags and went straight in my room with quick heavy steps without even looking at anyone.

"Did you guys go shopping?" I heard my mom ask aunt Amira behind me

"Yes, we got some outfits and her new books" she replied.

"Great, that's one less task I have to do, there are still a lot of arrangements left to do and my God China's far!" that was the last bit of sentence I heard my mom say before I closed the door and her voice disappeared into an incoherent mumble.

China's far. I thought to myself and felt a strange churn in my stomach of nervousness and relief. Yes getting far away from here is what I need. Desperately.

I put my shopping bag down and saw my yellow birthday dress stretched out on the floor where I left it and a big suitcase lying right beside it. Dad must have left it here for me. It's a sign. It's time to start packing. I put my new clothes directly into the suitcase with my stationery supplies. I open my closet and put more of my clothes in the bag with a few of my accessories. I don't have much in that department, I only have a few rubber bands, bracelets and a watch and a handful of bobby pins.

I spent the rest of my evening making a list of other supplies I needed to pack the other day and cleaned my room. The dinner was silent, I was in a bad mood, but others were just tired or had a lot on their mind which suited me well. I was not in a mood for small talks, or difficult detailed conversation about my behavior at the party, or pretending to talk around and acting like it never happened. Basically I was not up for any conversation.

I immediately went to bed after that and the slumber I had was filled with fragments of dreams of everything that happened in the past few weeks from my selection for abroad studies to kuzon humiliating me in front of everyone, my mother and I arguing on the dinner table and Miss Miteena's taunts. I didn't feel fresh after I woke up, it was partly also because it's five thirty in the morning. I went downstairs to the kitchen. The house was awfully quiet, everyone was asleep. I quietly lit the stove and tried my best to make myself some tea without making some noise and drank it alone in the garden besides a bush of roses and the wild grass. When mom wakes up she'll take me shopping again. There is still a lot to get for travelling. I don't hear a proper backpack, a first aid kit, some cup noodles and other snacks and many things I may need there and I only have today because Tomorrow I need to get my transfer certificate from my school and my reports which may take a while, and the day after tomorrow I leave.
