Episode 2 "Chance of Life"

I could hear everyone and the cry of that familiar voice calling out my name..

"Clinton, Son!"

I wished for this right?.. My own death.

I know I'm wrong, I've done nothing right. I'm living as if I'm dead, and what I did was something not worthy of God's forgiveness.

But.. God, if you are real and could hear me, take my breath and let life leave me now, I don't deserve another chance, and if my last breath be drawn today, may your will be done.

Clinton prayed on the midst of death, In his heart he knows that he is not worthy of a second chance, but God was good enough to pull him out of the ring of death and grant him a second life.

Back on his hospital room Clinton woke up blankly staring at the ceiling, he was unconscious for about 10 hours and barely remember what happened before he lost consciousness. Katherine was seated, head resting on the side bed asleep, he turned to her and touched her face with his left hand..

"Mama, mama."

He tried to wake her up but she seemed so exhausted so he let her sleep more, a couple minutes later, Doctor Demetry entered the room with a nurse accompanying him, she immediately introduced herself and right away attend on him checking his vitals and all, when she finished recording everything she handed the chart to Dr Demetry and exited the room. Demetry reviewed what the nurse had wrote down and started a casual conversation with Clinton.

"Good morning Mr, Mayers"

"Good morning Doctor" he answered

"How's your sleep?" asked Demetry

" I feel a little better, but how long was I asleep?"

"It'll be 10 hours from last night"

Clinton remained still on his bed, he doesn't want to wake her mom. He wonder what happened, but did not dare to ask Demetry about it, he just watched her mom sleep while rubbing her hair. Demetry clearly sees the reason he's remaining silent and do not dare to ask him is because of that last conversation they had. He was forced to tell him the truth about his condition before he got critical 10 hours ago. Clinton suddenly entered his office and asked the most hard to answer questions during a Doctor and the patient conversation. Demetry dared not to answer him forward as he already told Katherine about it and surely he knows that she's just looking for the right timing to tell him the truth. But Clinton begged him that he got provoked to tell him the result himself. He remembered Clinton wheel out the office shocked and really disappointed. But it doesn't matter who told him the truth, he'll be depressed either way, and would still result in shock.

"If you notice, you got a different nurse to assist you from now on during your stay here" Told Demetry trying to get his attention.

"Yeah, I noticed that. What happened to the first one?" asked Clinton.

"Her name is Sasha due to personal matters, she won't be able to further take care of you, but we got you a new one now, One of the best nurses that we have, you'll gonna like her." Demetry couldn't tell him the truth about nurse Sasha and what grounds she got from neglecting her duties.

" I see.. "

Clinton turn to Katherine once more and Demetry mentioned that she's been praying the whole night and was very worried about what happened to him. Clinton began to feel guilty about her mom and silently felt sorry about what happened.

"Thank you doctor.. For trying to save my life, I was not in my right mind when I stayed out for hours on such a cold weather when you told me not to." He apologized.

"I'm glad you realised that, learn from it and don't let your mother worry this much, Instead do your best to recover and get out of here, I'm sure you don't want your bill continue to increase." Demetry joked around and they both exchange smiles and chuckles, Katherine flinched and woke up from the noise they make while talking.

"Good morning Ms Mayers, sorry to wake you up' just giving your son a little scolding for being such a hard headed patient" Told Demetry, Katherine fixed herself a little and greeted the doctor too' a good morning. She's looking much better now that she was able to get some sleep, away from all the worries.

"Trust me doctor, I know how hard headed he is. See, he still got his skull intact" told Katherine.

"Come on mom, to whom could I inherit the same skull?" said Clinton, Teasing.

Katherine raised a brow to Clinton and was astonished about what he said, she remembered him bleeding a lot and still manage to wave goodbye with a peace sign to her while being brought by a chopper on the way to the hospital, she shook her head and release a great sigh, palm on her forehead

"Oh' gosh! What do I do to you, you should be thankful that you can't get a spank right know."

"Oh' Should I?" answered Clinton smiling sheepishly.

The mood lighten up as they exchange conversation. Demetry told them that he could be discharge in a week if he continue to improve from recovering during observation. Katherine got so relieved when she heard the news from doctor Demetry and thanked him for no one knows how many times now, she even offered to cook him meals one day and even joked that If only her daughter Vanessa is not yet engaged, she'll be willing to introduce her to him. Demetry simply ride on her jokes and is very pleased on how happy she is.

"Okay mama, cut it out. I bet he'll be more pleased if you let him take his break now that I'm doing okay" Clinton told Katherine while chuckling.

"Oh' yeah. yes your right! I'm sorry doctor, I know that your much tired more than anyone else in here, forgive me I'm a little bit of a talkative type sometimes" she apologized and thank him again one last time.

"I'm okay Ms, Mayers. Thanks for the concern, flicked finger - and now that you remind me about dating, I might consider finding one on my day off"

His clever jokes made her laugh even more and Clinton did the same. He thanked Demetry before he get to leave the room

"Thank you.. doctor."

"Your welcome, by the way call me Demetry, doctor.. sounds a little old." He insisted while pointing on his name tag pinned on his robe and finally made his exit.

Days passed by and a week of waiting was over, he manage to recover his health quick and finally was allowed to be discharge now. They waited for her sister Vanessa to come and she was the only one left uninformed about what happened to his brother. But when she knew, it was hopeless to come right away as she was abroad with his fiancé and was having paper conflict during migration. she took a flight back as soon as she got the papers done. Vanessa is 4 years older than Clinton she's 22 while his only 18. They were not that close most of his teenage life because of what he chose to do the moment he reached 13-years-old, when he began to choose the path way different from the day he was born. Clinton's parents was no longer getting along so well, his father was an abusive drunkard, and finally got divorced when he was 14. He started to hang out with his friends and tried all sorts of bad things Including drinking, smoking and even drugs. He got so addicted to car and dirt bike racings, and kept tagging along with different women every other month.

When he finally get so out of hand, her mother Katherine and grandparents decided to sent him to juvenile and he stayed there until he reached 17. He manage to get his high school done and got his diploma during his time in jail. but when he got out, when everyone in the family thought their nightmare was over, Clinton began to hang out again with the same friends before, and once more got exposed to all sorts of bad habits and met the worst tragedy he could ever experience, it was a snowy night his car was running fast, he drove off out of anger and lost control the car slipped off the road, and hit a big tree resulting to a complete wreck, he survived. Only to know that living a normal life would be hard to achieve and is now nearly impossible.
