Chapter 4 - "Ellen, and Esther"

"So Regina, have you managed to get that guy's number, he's said to be perfect at basketball, I think everyone is in love with him." ask a girl, Regina friend, Livia Zhou

"No I think he is cooler." said Regina staring at younger Jake who is at college cafetaria sitting alone

"Is that the nerdy smart guy who answers science quizzes and is the top of college every year?" said Livia shocked looking at Regina

"You had a crush on him?" ask another Regina friend, Sophia Bai

"Go, and ask for his number then." tease Livia to Regina

"Okay, let's go, who's scared." said Regina walked towards Jake smiling happily

Jake already finished his lunch, and was standing at the locker, and reading a book about human thinking from a psychological perspective, while throwing away the trash.

"Hey what book are you readin, It looks really interesting." said Regina pretend to throw away a trash too

"Human thinking from a psychological perspective." replied Jake to Regina then walked away coldly

"Gosh, he's so cold, are you able to talk to a future psychologist who already understands human thought?" ask Sophia tease her

After several days of strategizing and failing due to constant obstacles, Regina finally decided to just go for it.

"Hey, wait a minute, there's something I want to ask you." shouted Regina to Jake running towards him in the middle of their college sidewalks

"I have something I'm confused about in my homework, and you majored at Psychology right, can you help me?" ask Regina to Jake hoping it to success

"You're...?"

"I'm Regina Liu, majored in Criminology." said Regina to Jake shake his hand with a warm smile

"Jake Yang, majored in Psychology." said Jake to Regina awkwardly because the hand shakes feels powerful, and walked away

"I'll take that as an agreement, I'll wait for you outside later." shouted Regina to Jake smiled happily

"Yes, finally I got him." smiled Regina jumped a little exited

Since then, they both became close and often worked on assignments and projects, and studied for exams together, and that's where they started to fall for each other.

"So, what you mean is that the missing Esther is Ellen, and the dead Ellen is Esther, so the twins really exist?" asked David to Regina inside the car

"Yes, It seems like the parents erased the existence of the other twin and swapped her identity as well, it's complicated." replied Regina in the car to David

"And, I just remembered, the report this afternoon was about seeing a girl next to the pool, right?" ask Regina to David

"But what I saw in the ritual was not a girl who was a full-grown woman, and I think the girl in the swimming pool was a twin who had passed away."

"Because when I read this file I found out that the twin died in an accident in the pool." said Regina shivering a little handing the file to David

"Then we should go back to the office now and hold a meeting to carry out the search operation for Esther, we will reopen that cold case." said David to Regina

The next morning they held an inter-division meeting to discuss the case of Esther Lu's disappearance.

"Well, we have some new information regarding your division's cold case, the disappearance of Esther." said Regina leading the meeting

"What is it, I am very curious." said a co-worker from another division, Helen Rui

Helen Rui, is one of the co-workers in another division who has not been close to Regina for a long time because she thinks that Regina stole all her spotlight.

"Okay, I'll start, based on one of the witnesses I investigated last night, Jake Yang, a psychiatrist at S hospital."

Regina displays the twin photos in front using a projector, everyone there is shocked.

"There are two of them?" muttered all the co-workers confused and shocked

"The one on the left is Esther Lu, and the one on the right is her twin Ellen Lu." pointing Regina to all of them

"Ellen was reported to have died years ago, due to an accident in the swimming pool at their old house."

"And now what is missing is not Esther but Ellen."

Everyone there was confused about what Regina was explaining, it didn't make sense at all.

"Before you all ask me why that is, so Esther who is now missing is the real Ellen, and the Ellen who died is actually Esther, their parents changed it." explain Regina to them

"Excuse me, are you joking around, Officer Liu, this is very complicated." asked the head of the next division, Mario Zhang

"No, this is the proof based on the information I got from the psychiatrist who treated Esther before." said Regina showing the evidence to Mario

"Wait, wasn't the missing victim the only child in her family, how come there are twins, was the photo edited?" ask Helen suddenly pointing at the presentation

"Her personal information did state that she is an only child, but in reality it seems her parents changed all that when she fell into a coma." replied Regina to Helen too

"And, what about that photo?" ask Helen curious

"That photo wasn't edited, I've already looked into that before." replied David to Helen

"So for now that's all the information we have regarding the victim, did your division find anything, officer Rui?" ask Regina to them

"We definitely found something strange." said Helen getting up from her chair and walked towards Regina holding her laptop
