Betrothed

I’ve been spending my time studying for these past few months. Since, I didn’t inherit memories of Irene. I had to learn this world, it’s etiquette, and her magic.

Yet, the rumours of this lady don’t disappear. It shows they scared of her. Well, I Can’t say what Irene does is a right thing. To reprimand a young lady not to stay away from your fiancé, this is the right thing to do.

Anyway, it’s nice once the royals announced the broken engagement. I didn’t have to handle with the marquis’ house or meet them. Of course, I’ll see them. But let’s not think of it for now.

I too spent practically half a year to studying the information of this world I live now. Dharanendra, as the name of this country bear a meaning as world protector.

This land is a tribute to The Dharanendra as the child of God of Sun who saves this world, it's a reason this land called Dharanendra. Another reason for that is Dharanendra, the protector of Batavia.

The history carved, There’s a land where’s creatures of beast-men, fairy, and human lives in harmony, and that’s land is Batavia. The vast land then had two successors to rule it, the monarch then divide the land into two. One is for the sister and the latter for the brother.

Dharanendra was the first land, sovereign by a Male monarch, as Batavia always ruled by a female monarch. They called the two, the golden child, as the lord bless them.

There are no issues with the two kingdoms. And now, Batavia no longer opened into the actual world. As for the reasons, there’s no record of it. Maybe it was a secret so that the outsiders never knew where’s this land gone.

All I know that Batavia is the most powerful land, their powers are dangerous, and that’s why they seal themselves elsewhere. But people regard this story as legend.

So, the moment I read these, I no longer surprised of how weird our kingdom was. The goddess of night, Nyx bless Dharanendra. But it’s rare for someone to have darkness attributes in this land. Only two people who have that now. Irene itself and the demon king.

Yet, Irene never used her Darkness elements and tried to hide it. Because she knows once the noblesse knew of her power, it could bring calamity to her house. Now, as I become Irene, I’ll live in the duke’s territory and protect this place with the magic.

Or That’s what I thought.

I always poor at reading my hunch. I felt restless these days, and I know something might happen. But I drive away that thought and forget it. Until a letter from the royal family arrived this evening.

We have dining as always, there’s no sound of us chattering. We enjoyed the food. And the head butler suddenly announced that the King’s messenger arrived in the middle of the dinner.

Only two statements.

I ask Irene Meera Jayanegara to be my bride and soon as the Empress of Dharanendra.

Come to the palace to attend the Queen training.

No one utters a word. When the messenger left. My brother banged the dining table as he spewed holy word.

“This fu@#ing monarch! How can he do this s#@t! Who the f@#k he thinks he was?!!”

While I just left dumbfounded. Didn’t I plan to live quietly? Why this happened to me? God, can you explain to me what joke is it? Sigh.. what a pain in the ***.

A man in with the royal purple robe stared lazily at the old man with too much accessories in his body. Abhimanyu narrowed his eyes. He felt sick to see this old man standing fearlessly in front of him. Beside him, Arjuna the young counsellor, silently watching the man. And the court full of another noble from various houses, waiting for Marquis Blair to open his mouth.

“Your Majesty.. is it not to abrupt to do this marriage?” Marquis Blair’s protest made the court hitch their breath. No one dare to move or made a sound.

“You dare questioning His majesty, Marquis Blair?” Arjuna threaten him, but the Marquis doesn’t spare a glance to him. He arrogantly snorted at Arjuna and continued to speak.

“As you know, that woman is infamous for being vile. She also tried to hurt my son. Your majesty, this is not good-“ the court began noisy, they are grateful that the Grand Duke didn’t attend today’s court or else the Marquis head would hang in the capital. Abhimanyu tapped his fingers, annoyed.

“I don’t know that the Marquis had time to spare rather than took care of your territory. But I believe that Lady Irene has reason to hurt your son. If I was her, I would kill both of the traitor. It’s easiest way to eliminate vermin” Abhimanyu sneered. His purple eyes sent an icy glare to the Marquis.

“T-that’s...” Marquis Blair lost his word. The noble gulp down their saliva, they fear the king might kill the Marquis. How stupid of him standing there questions the king’s action. And Abhimanyu himself didn’t like waste his time with this people.

“Arjuna, throw him out” he ordered lightly.

“Yes, your majesty” Arjuna instruct the knight to drag Marquis Blair out of his court.

“W-wait I still yet-“

“Tch. How noisy. Now, let’s continue our discussion”

I lazily read a history book while sitting in the rocking chair. Liliana appears after knocked the door with letters.

“My lady.. there’s a letter from the young countess for you” I put down my book while She handing me a buckled of invitation letter and one personal letter to me.

“Is it from lady Devi?”

“Yes, my lady.”

“Let me see it”

As i read more i feel uncomfortable. I frown, the contents of the letter shown how much this lady despised Irene. I don’t know what’s makes her so angry to Irene and sent this piece of paper full of hate to her.

“Did I ever quarrel with this Lady, Liliana?”

“I believe not my lady. But, I heard that she’s the young baroness friend’s.” Ah. Now I know why this lady hates her, she’s angry at how Irene reprimand Elle and hurt her. It’s surprising that woman had this kind young lady as her friend.

“I see. Seems like someone uses her friend to threaten me.” I smile. Amused at this cute young lady’s action.

“Didn’t Lady Devi betrothed to the heir of Duke Ilyas?” Liliana smiled at my question. She seems happy that i had remembered the nobles information.

“Ah, yes, my lady. You had remembered it.”

“I have to. What kind of person this young countess?”

“As far as I know, she’s a benevolent young lady, also brave as the same time.”Now, I’m sure this cute lady will be a pleasant person to talk. But I remember, she’s also famous because of her magic ability, especially her beautiful green eyes, which have an exceptional ability to see through everything. If she had to use it, I’m sure she knows that her fiancé has betrayed her with her dear friend, Elle.

“So that’s it. My bad, she’s just wasting her ability. She could see everything she wants with that pair of hawk eyes. Bring me a quill and paper, Liliana. I had to open her sight to see, didn’t I?”

A young woman sipping her tea, while looking at outside her window, the moon shine brightly. She seems happy after sending her letter to the Grand Duke’s house. A maid lightly knocked on her door. Ajeng, her maid nervously gives her a reply letter to her mistress. Devi eyes shook and tear open the letter. She read it with Ajeng.

“Thank you to the young lady’s criticism about my act. Today I send you my thanks and my worries for you. I wish you in a good health lady Devi. I believe that you already wasting your hawk eyes. Because as far as I know, you can see the truth with that pair of beautiful eyes. Please be aware of the friend of yours. She’s not someone you think she is. As greediness will cut both of your ties. I didn’t want to say this to you. But you have to know this. Please don’t waste your tears for him. Let the hawk’s eyes see the truth beyond them. When you covered the truth, I’ll be waiting for you at The blue flower. My best regards. Irene Meera Jayanegara.” Devi didn’t want to believe it. Ajeng quietly whisper, she’s also afraid if it’s true.

“My lady..This is..”

“Let me see the truth then.” Devi brace herself, she needs to use her hawk eyes.

“But..! My lady! What if this letter-“

“Close your mouth, Ajeng.. don’t let any words slip from your mouth.”

“Yes. My lady”

She focused her sight, she then saw her fiancé’s manor. Next, her sight getting deeper to his room. There she saw her fiancé tossing and turning with her friend. She balled her fist and gritted her teeth. Her anger flare up, she’s angry how Elle deceived her.

“Haa.. I’m truly Idiot..” Devi sighed. No need to waste her time crying. She felt nothing for that man. The engagement between them happened because they need her magic. Elle, she thought, a friend of her is an amiable woman. How ironic. Well, now she was not her concerns anymore. She can use this to break her engagement, but how?

“My lady?” Ajeng confused to see her mistress changing emotion. Then she hears her mistress instruct her.

“Prepare carriage for tomorrow. We’ll be going to The Blue Flower”

“Yes. My lady”

“I’m sorry that we didn’t inform you we will visit Lady Irene” Devi dress in a pink gown, her beautiful blonde hair braided beautifully. Liliana smile and leads the young countess to her mistress tea room.

“It’s okay. Our mistress had known you’ll be coming.”

“Ah. I’ve been blind all this time.” Devi feel guilty, Liliana

“It’s okay, Lady Devi. Everyone made mistakes”

“I’m sorry for your mistress”

“That..I should say this to you, Lady Devi. Our mistress, she’s suffer from memory lost because of that accident.” Liliana frown remembers how bad her mistress conditions that day.

“Memory lost? How?” Devi surprised at the information.

“The doctor said this is because of trauma she’s got that day. She’s been in comatose for a weak. And this half past year, our mistress is recuperate.”

“This. Why you tell me?” Liliana smile lightly, then she opened the door.There’s a woman sitting while reading, her eyes still focused on her book.

“Our mistress had waiting.”

“My lady, I’ve brought Lady Devi to you”

“Thank you Liliana” Devi saw her smile, she’s stunned. It seems Lady Irene lost her memories. Her attitude differs from before.

“Please have a seat, young lady. I ask the maid to prepare some refreshments. I don’t know what you like. May you help yourself, Lady Devi.” She gestured Devi to sit down.

“Thank you, Lady Irene”

“It’s nice to see you here today, Lady Devi”

“I’m sorry for the sudden visit”

“It’s okay, I’m the one who invited you. So you had seen it?” Devi knew what she means.

“Yes..”

“What do you think about it, Lady Devi?” Irene sipped her tea, waiting for her reply

“I..hah...I’m really sorry” Devi feel sorry to send that letter

“You don’t need to. At least now we know each other. Also, I can inform you about that too”

“But I-“

Irene chuckled. “It’s okay, let forget about the letter. So, what do you want to do now, Lady Devi?”

“I want to break the engagement.” Devi sighed. It’s not a surprise for Irene. She knows Devi would think so.

“And you don’t know how to do it?”

“Yes.”

“I can help you, but you have to do a favour for me.”

“You will help me?” Devi dumbfounded, how come Lady Irene help her.

“Yes.. I can help broke the engagement. And the payment for that. Be my lady-in-waiting”

“This.. how can you give this honour to me, Lady Irene? I can’t do this.. this is..”

“Is it too much for you? If you be my lady-in-waiting your fiancé can’t say anything about it.”

“That’s..”

“I believe you’re already know about the engagement between me and the king.”

“Yes. I know. But still-“

“I’ll ask him to appoint you. So, it will not me who asks your hand. But the king. Well?”

“I’ll do it”
