“You didn’t eat,” Chen Wei said softly, setting down a plate of toast.

Yunxi looked up at him, startled, then smiled faintly. “I’m not used to this… human food.”

“Yunxi… what are you doing?” he asked, astonished.

She froze, and for a heartbeat, he thought she might disappear again. Then she whispered, “I can’t let anyone know. Please… promise me.”
