Episode 4 – Echoes of a Warning

Morning came too quickly.

Elina woke with a pounding headache, the memory of last night’s fear still clinging to her. The stranger’s chilling smile… the whispers… Adrian’s grip on her wrist as they ran.

It all felt unreal—until she heard the whisper again.

“He’s coming…”

She sat up fast, chest tight.

Her phone buzzed.

Esther 💕: Baby, you didn’t call me last night. Are you okay?

Wemy 😎: I am coming to your side later. I wanna gist you.

A small smile tugged at her lips.

Esther Miller—her closest cousin, her real sister.

Wemy—loud, protective, always ready to fight for her.

But today… she wasn’t sure a fight would help.

Downstairs, the house felt off. Her sisters, Hannah and Elizabeth, walked past without greeting—no surprise. They always acted like Elina was “strong enough” to handle everything alone.

If only they knew.

Her father glanced up from the newspaper.

“You didn’t come home early yesterday.”

“I was with a friend,” she said quietly.

Elizabeth snorted. “Right. Elina and her secret life.”

Elina ignored her and stepped outside—only to see a familiar black car pull up.

Adrian.

He looked tired but focused. Dangerous and protective in the same breath.

“You didn’t sleep,” he said.

“Neither did you.”

He opened the passenger door. “We need to talk.”

As they drove, the silence felt heavy. Finally, Adrian spoke.

“The man from last night… he wasn’t alone. Someone else was watching. Someone who knows your name.”

Elina felt her blood run cold. “Who?”

“His name is Lucian Blackwell.”

The name itself felt like a shadow. Dark. Cold. Powerful.

“Lucian?” she whispered. “Who is he to you?”

Adrian’s jaw tightened. “Someone from the life I tried to escape. Someone who shouldn’t be here.”

Her phone started ringing.

Esther.

“I need to answer,” Elina said, stepping out of the car.

“Stay close,” Adrian warned.

She answered.

“Elina!” Esther shouted. “Wemy said he saw someone outside your house last night. A tall man in black. And Elina…” her voice dropped, “he said the man smiled when he noticed him watching.”

Elina’s stomach twisted.

“Esther… did Wemy tell you what the man looked like?”

“He said the man had eyes like he could see through you.”

Elina’s breath stilled.

That was Lucian.

Before she could speak, another car screeched to a stop nearby. She turned slowly.

A tall man stepped out.

Black suit. Cold eyes. A slow, haunting smile.

Lucian Blackwell.

“Elina,” he said, his voice smooth and commanding. “We weren’t done talking.”

Her heart dropped.

Adrian burst from his car. “Get away from her.”

Lucian tilted his head, amused. “Still playing the hero, Cole? You never learn.”

“Elina, get behind me!” Adrian barked.

But Lucian smiled wider—like he knew something they didn’t.

“We will meet again,” he murmured to Elina. “This is only the beginning.”

Elina felt a whisper curl inside her skull.

“He has found you…”

Her knees shook.

The two men stared at each other—one shadow, one fire.

And she was trapped in the middle.

To be continued…
