Internal Monologue — Mira, 11:20 PM
The room is quiet, but Mira’s mind is loud.
She scrolls through old messages, each “maybe” glowing like a neon sign. May be it’s not what it seems to be. May be it’s not what I love. May be it’s not what I choose to be.
She whispers to herself:
“Is ‘maybe’ my shield? Or my cage?”
Her thoughts spiral:
May be it’s not what I can ignore.
May be it’s not what I could change.
May be it’s not sad as it meant to be.
She wonders if doubt has been her way of surviving. If certainty is a battlefield, then “maybe” is her bunker. But bunkers are dark, airless, lonely.
Mira (thinking): Arjun said he’s tired. He said he might leave.
Mira (thinking): May be it’s the only thing I can do — to stay uncertain.
Mira (thinking): But may be it’s all in my head.
She closes her eyes. Silence presses against her chest. Protection or prison? She can’t tell.
Chat Log — 12:03 AM, Arjun reappears
Arjun: Mira.
Mira: I thought you were gone.
Arjun: I almost was. But something pulled me back.
Mira: May be it’s not what I can ignore.
Arjun: Stop hiding. Tell me: is “maybe” your protection, or your prison?
Mira: Both.
Arjun: That’s not enough.
Mira: It shields me from pain. But it locks me away from joy.
Arjun: Then break it.
Mira: May be I can’t.
Arjun: You can. You just don’t trust yourself.
Mira: What if certainty betrays me?
Arjun: What if uncertainty already has?
Mira: May be it’s not sad as it meant to be.
Arjun: Mira, listen. I don’t want poetry. I want truth. Do you want me?
Mira: …
Arjun: Say it.
Mira: May be it’s not what I choose to be.
Arjun: Then I’ll leave.
Mira: Wait.
Arjun: For what? Another “maybe”?
Mira: For me to try.
Arjun: Try what?
Mira: To step outside the cage.
Arjun: Then step.
Mira: I’m afraid.
Arjun: Fear means it matters.
Mira: May be it’s not in my likings.
Arjun: Or maybe it is, and you’re too scared to admit it.
Mira: You think I love you?
Arjun: I think you already know.
Mira: May be it’s all in my head.
Arjun: Then let it out.
Mira: If I say yes, everything changes.
Arjun: If you keep saying maybe, everything ends.
Mira: May be it’s not what I could change.
Arjun: Mira. Please.
Mira: …Yes.
Arjun: What?
Mira: Yes, I want you. Yes, I care. Yes, I’m tired of “maybe.”
Arjun: Finally.
Mira: But don’t celebrate yet. I’m fragile.
Arjun: Fragile is fine. Honest is better.
Mira: So “maybe” was both — protection and prison.
Arjun: And you just unlocked the door.
Mira: May be it’s not sad as it meant to be.
Arjun: No. It’s hopeful.
Mira: Hope scares me too.
Arjun: Then let’s be scared together.
Mira: May be… no. Yes.
Chat ends — 12:45 AM. Mira breathes differently now. The word “yes” feels heavier than “maybe,” but also lighter. She wonders if certainty will hurt, but for the first time, she chooses to risk it.
