Threads Of Sunshine (Taekook)

Chapter 1 – The Sunflower Incident

The sunlight poured into the classroom, hitting the polished floor and catching the dust in tiny golden specks. Taehyung leaned lazily against the window, his messy hair glowing slightly in the afternoon light. He was tapping a pen on his notebook, humming softly, until the door creaked open.

Jungkook rushed in, clutching his books like they were shields against the world. His backpack strap slipped from his shoulder, and he scrambled to fix it, hoping no one had noticed his late arrival. But of course, Taehyung had.

“Late again, Kookie? You really like making an entrance, huh?” Taehyung’s smirk was sharp, teasing, and somehow impossibly charming at the same time.

.

“I-I… I got stuck in traffic…” Jungkook stammered, cheeks heating.

“Traffic, or avoiding me?” Taehyung leaned closer, lowering his voice so only Jungkook could hear. The teasing glint in his eyes made Jungkook’s chest flutter uncomfortably

“…N-not avoiding you,” he muttered, almost too softly for himself.

Taehyung tilted his head, clearly unconvinced. “Don’t lie. I can tell when you’re nervous around me.”

Jungkook’s fingers curled around the strap of his backpack, his heart hammering. Why did Taehyung have to notice everything? Why did he always feel this… strange flutter when Taehyung smirked at him like that

He hurried to his desk, trying to focus on opening his notebook, but his eyes kept wandering back to Taehyung. The boy was casually flipping pages, pretending not to stare, but Jungkook could feel the weight of his gaze.

The bell rang, signaling recess. Students poured out into the courtyard, laughing and shouting, leaving the classrooms almost empty. Taehyung’s hand found Jungkook’s sleeve before he could escape into the crowd.

“Come on, let’s walk together. Don’t think you can hide from me that easily,” he said, tugging Jungkook gently.

Jungkook’s cheeks flamed again, but he nodded, walking beside Taehyung. The sunlight made the courtyard sparkle, and a gentle wind swept through. Suddenly, a bright sunflower from the school garden flew through the air, landing perfectly in Jungkook’s hands.

He blinked, stunned. “Uh… this… this is…”

Taehyung’s grin widened. “See? Even the universe wants to give you a little sunshine.”

Jungkook stared at the flower, then back at Taehyung. His heart beat faster than normal. For a moment, the smirk on Taehyung’s face didn’t feel teasing—it felt soft, warm, and oddly comforting.

“Th-thank you…” Jungkook whispered.

Taehyung nudged him lightly. “You’re welcome, sunshine.”

The nickname hit Jungkook like a spark. He tried to hide behind the sunflower, but he couldn’t stop the faint smile tugging at his lips. Sunshine… the word lingered in his chest like a gentle pulse.

They walked side by side, and Taehyung’s playful nature didn’t stop. “Hey, I hope you carry that sunflower carefully… wouldn’t want it to crush like your delicate little heart,” he teased.

“You’re impossible…” Jungkook muttered, cheeks hot, but a small laugh escaped anyway.

“Maybe. But you kinda like it,” Taehyung said, grinning.

Jungkook’s thoughts spun in circles. His heart was fluttering—was it embarrassment? Happiness? Or maybe both? “…I-I… maybe…” he stammered.

Taehyung nudged him again, victorious. “Good answer, Kookie. Very good answer.”

As they continued through the courtyard, the warmth of the sun mixed with the warmth in Jungkook’s chest. He held the sunflower tightly, almost afraid to let it go. His mind was a mess of thoughts:

Sunshine… what a weird nickname… but why does it make my heart feel so strange? Why do I feel like smiling even when he’s teasing me?

Taehyung hummed softly, watching him with a satisfied grin. He loved seeing Jungkook flustered, his shy glances, the faint blush creeping over his cheeks. And yet, underneath his usual playful teasing, there was a softness that only Jungkook seemed to notice.

“Next time, try not to blush so hard,” Taehyung murmured. “It’s adorable, but I might never stop teasing you

Jungkook just hugged the sunflower a little tighter and smiled shyly. His voice felt trapped somewhere in his throat, so he didn’t respond, but his eyes met Taehyung’s for a brief moment, and that was enough.

The sun began to dip lower, casting long shadows across the courtyard. Students laughed and played in groups, but for Jungkook, the world had narrowed to just one person. Taehyung’s teasing smirk, his soft eyes, the way he leaned casually yet somehow completely in control—it made Jungkook’s chest tighten in a way he didn’t want to admit.

He thought about the sunflower, its yellow petals bright and alive. Somehow, it felt like a promise, a little piece of warmth he could carry.

Sunshine… huh? Maybe I don’t mind this teasing after all. Maybe… I like it.

Taehyung bumped his shoulder lightly, still smirking. “Careful, Kookie. That smile of yours is dangerous—it might make me fall even more.”

Jungkook froze, heart hammering, and for the first time, he didn’t look away.
