Wei Wuxian found out about the mission by accident.
He was eating snacks in the living room when Lan Wangji walked in, wearing his long black coat and gloves. The guards followed behind him, serious and alert.
Wei Wuxian looked up. “You look like you’re going to scare someone.”
Lan Wangji replied calmly, “I am.”
Wei Wuxian stood up immediately. “Cool. I’m coming.”
The room went silent.
“No,” Lan Wangji said without hesitation.
Wei Wuxian crossed his arms. “Excuse me? I’m your husband, not a decorative item.”
“It’s dangerous,” Lan Wangji said.
Wei Wuxian smirked. “I threw a flower pot at an
attacker yesterday. I’m clearly qualified.”
The guards held their breath.
Lan Wangji stared at him for a long moment… then sighed.
“Stay close. Don’t run.”
Wei Wuxian grinned. “Yes, Boss Husband.”
The meeting place was an old warehouse near the harbor.
Wei Wuxian looked around. “Very classic mafia vibes. Needs better lighting.”
Lan Wangji ignored him and walked forward. A rival
gang leader stepped out from the shadows.
“So this is Lan Wangji,” the man sneered. “I didn’t expect you to bring your spouse.”
Wei Wuxian waved. “Hi. I’m the upgrade.”
The rival laughed.
Big mistake.
Lan Wangji’s gaze turned icy. “Watch your words.”
The tension snapped.
Gunshots echoed—but not near Wei Wuxian.
Lan Wangji stepped in front of him instantly, shielding him without thinking.
Wei Wuxian blinked. “You moved fast.”
“You’re behind me,” Lan Wangji said. “Always.”
Wei Wuxian felt strangely safe.
When chaos broke out, Wei Wuxian noticed something important.
The attackers were coordinated. Too organized.
“This isn’t random,” Wei Wuxian whispered.
“Someone planned this carefully.”
Lan Wangji glanced at him. “You noticed.”
Wei Wuxian smiled. “I’m smarter than I look.”
Together, they moved. Lan Wangji handled the danger. Wei Wuxian spotted exits, traps, and strange movements.
In ten minutes, it was over.
The rival boss was caught.
Before being dragged away, he shouted,
“This isn’t over! Someone wants your marriage broken!”
Wei Wuxian raised an eyebrow. “Rude.”
Lan Wangji’s voice was cold. “That will never happen.”
Back in the car, silence filled the space.
Wei Wuxian finally spoke. “You didn’t have to protect me like that.”
Lan Wangji turned his head slightly. “Yes, I did.”
“Why?” Wei Wuxian asked.
Lan Wangji answered without hesitation.
“Because I chose you.”
Wei Wuxian laughed softly. “Wow. You’re dangerously sincere.”
Lan Wangji looked away—but his ears were red.
