The next morning Aiden woke up with a headache. His palm still had a faint red mark from the tiny cut Damian made. He stared at it for a long time. The skin felt normal now, but he could almost feel Damian’s mouth there again. Warm. Wet. Possessive.

He shook the thought away and got dressed. Today he promised Sera he would meet her early at the market. She wanted to talk. Really talk.

The streets were quieter than usual. Fog hung low. Aiden kept his hood up and walked fast. Every shadow on the wall made him jump a little. Like they were watching him now.

Sera was waiting behind her stall. She looked worried. Her braids were messy, like she hadn’t slept.

“Aiden,” she said as soon as she saw him. She pulled him into the small space behind the stall so no one could hear. “Tell me everything. No hiding.”

Aiden sat on a crate. He told her about the training. The blood. The shadows coming stronger. How close Damian’s face was.

Sera listened without interrupting. When he finished, she was quiet for a moment.

“That’s not training,” she said finally. “That’s… bonding. Dark bonding. Blood magic like that—it ties people together. Makes one stronger through the other. But it also makes it hard to walk away.”

Aiden frowned. “I don’t want to walk away. He’s my friend.”

Sera took his hands. “Friends don’t lick your blood, Aiden. Friends don’t say ‘mine’ like they mean forever.”

Aiden pulled his hands back slowly. “You’re overthinking it. He’s just protective.”

“Protective people don’t lock doors during training. Protective people don’t look at you like you’re food.”

Aiden stood up. “Stop. I know what I’m doing.”

Sera’s eyes filled with tears. “Do you? Because I’m scared for you. And I think you’re starting to like it. The darkness. The way he makes you feel needed.”

Aiden didn’t answer. He couldn’t. Because part of him knew she was right.

“I have to go,” he said. “Damian is waiting.”

Sera grabbed his sleeve. “Promise me one thing. If he ever hurts you—even a little—you come to me. Immediately.”

Aiden nodded. “I promise.”

He left the market feeling heavier.

At Damian’s house, the training room door was already open. Damian stood inside, shirtless this time. His chest had old scars—thin white lines from fights long ago. He looked powerful. Dangerous. Beautiful in a broken way.

“You’re early,” Damian said. He smiled. “Good.”

Aiden stepped inside. “I wanted to practice more.”

Damian closed the door behind him. Locked it again.

“Today we go deeper,” Damian said. “You need to learn control. Shadows can eat you if you let them.”

He walked to a small table. There was a bowl of dark liquid—blood mixed with something black. Damian dipped his finger in it and drew a new circle on the floor. Bigger this time. Around both of them.

“Stand here,” he said.

Aiden stepped into the circle. The air felt thicker. Like breathing underwater.

Damian stood opposite him. “Give me your hand.”

Aiden held it out. Damian took it. This time he didn’t cut. He just pressed their palms together. Skin to skin.

“Feel my pulse,” Damian whispered. “Match it with yours.”

Aiden closed his eyes. He felt Damian’s heartbeat—strong, steady, a little fast. Like Damian was nervous too.

Shadows rose around them. Not just from Aiden. From Damian too. Red-tinged shadows mixed with black ones. They swirled together. Became one.

Aiden gasped. It felt like Damian was inside his head. Not reading thoughts, but feeling them. The anger. The fear. The want.

Damian’s voice came soft. “You feel me?”

“Yes,” Aiden breathed.

“Good. Now push. Make the shadows obey only you.”

Aiden tried. The shadows listened. They formed a wall. Then a spear. Then a hand that reached out and touched Damian’s cheek.

Damian’s eyes opened. He looked surprised. Then pleased.

“You touched me,” he said. His voice was rough.

Aiden opened his eyes. Their hands were still pressed together. The shadows were calm now. Like a blanket around them.

“I didn’t mean to,” Aiden said.

Damian stepped closer. Their bodies almost touched. “I liked it.”

Aiden’s heart raced. “Damian…”

Damian leaned in. This time there was no knock. No interruption.

His lips brushed Aiden’s. Soft at first. Then harder. Hungry.

Aiden froze for a second. Then he kissed back. Small. Unsure. But real.

The shadows exploded around them—dark fireworks. Power rushed through both. Aiden felt stronger. Damian felt warmer.

When they pulled apart, both were breathing hard.

Damian rested his forehead against Aiden’s. “You’re mine now,” he whispered. “You know that, right?”

Aiden didn’t answer with words. He just nodded once. Small. Scared. Happy.

Outside the house, Thorne waited in the hallway. Sera had come again. She stood with arms crossed.

“He’s been in there too long,” she said.

Thorne sighed. “They’re training.”

Sera glared. “Training doesn’t take hours. And it doesn’t make the windows fog up with dark magic.”

Thorne looked at the door. He could feel the power leaking out. Heavy. Intimate.

“He won’t hurt him,” Thorne said quietly.

Sera turned to him. “How do you know?”

“Because I’ve seen Damian destroy people. But never Aiden. Aiden is… different for him.”

Sera stepped closer to Thorne. “And you? Are you different for someone?”

Thorne looked down at her. Their faces were close now too.

“Maybe,” he said. His voice low.

Sera’s cheeks turned pink. She didn’t move away.

Inside the training room, Damian pulled Aiden into another kiss. Deeper this time.

But in the back of Damian’s mind, a small voice whispered.

He’s waking up too fast. Vesper will notice.

And far across the city, in the white tower, Lord Vesper Kane opened his eyes. The glowing orb in front of him showed two boys kissing in a circle of shadows.

Vesper’s smile was cold. Cruel.

“The bond is sealed,” he said. “Now the real game begins.”

He waved his hand. White light flickered in the orb.

A tiny crack appeared in the shadows around Aiden and Damian.

Neither of them noticed.
