Elena stood beside the black car, her hand slowly resting near the hidden gun under her jacket.

Inside the car, Adrian Volkov leaned back in the seat, watching her with calm amusement.

The dim light from the street lamp illuminated his sharp features. His dark hair was slightly messy, and his eyes looked cold… but strangely curious.

For a moment, neither of them spoke.

Finally, Elena broke the silence.

“Step out of the car,” she said firmly.

Adrian raised one eyebrow.

“So direct.”

Elena didn’t move. “You’re under investigation. It would be better for you to cooperate.”

Adrian chuckled softly.

“Agent Elena, if I were the type of man who cooperates with authorities… I wouldn’t be the Mafia King.”

Elena’s eyes narrowed.

She quickly pulled out her badge and showed it to him.

“Adrian Volkov, you are suspected of organized crime, illegal trade, and several other charges. I can arrest you right now.”

Adrian glanced at the badge briefly, completely unimpressed.

“Interesting.”

“Interesting?” Elena repeated.

“Yes,” he replied calmly. “Because you walked straight into my territory.”

Before Elena could react, the doors of the nearby buildings suddenly opened.

Several tall men in black suits stepped out of the shadows.

Bodyguards.

At least ten of them.

Elena’s heart skipped a beat, but her expression remained calm.

Adrian noticed it immediately.

He smiled slightly.

“Impressive,” he said. “Most people would panic.”

Elena crossed her arms.

“Are you threatening an agent of the law?”

Adrian leaned forward slightly, resting his elbow on the window.

“No,” he said quietly.

“I’m showing you reality.”

Elena glanced at the men around them.

She could fight.

But escaping ten armed bodyguards would be nearly impossible.

Adrian studied her face carefully.

“You’re thinking about fighting your way out,” he said.

Elena didn’t reply.

Adrian smirked.

“Relax. If I wanted you dead, you wouldn’t still be standing there.”

Elena exhaled slowly, trying to control the tension in her body.

“Then what do you want?”

For the first time, Adrian looked serious.

“I want to talk.”

Elena laughed softly.

“The Mafia King invites a federal agent for a friendly chat?”

Adrian shrugged.

“Stranger things have happened.”

He opened the car door and stepped out.

Up close, he looked even taller than she expected.

And far more dangerous.

But he kept a calm distance from her.

“Let’s make a deal,” Adrian said.

“What kind of deal?”

You stop pretending you can arrest me tonight,” Adrian said calmly.

“And I promise not to make this situation… unpleasant.”

Elena stared at him.

“You expect me to trust you?”

Adrian tilted his head slightly.

“No.”

He paused.

“But I think you’re curious.”

Elena hated to admit it, but he was right.

Something about this man was strange.

Too confident.

Too calm.

And somehow… he already knew too much about her.

Adrian stepped back toward the car.

“Get in.”

Elena didn’t move.

“Why would I do that?”

Adrian opened the passenger door and looked at her.

“Because, Agent Elena,” he said quietly,

“If you want to catch me…”

“You need to understand my world first.”

Elena hesitated.

Every rule in her training told her this was a terrible idea.

But this could also be the chance to get closer to him.

To learn his secrets.

Finally, she made a decision.

She stepped toward the car.

Adrian’s smile returned.

“Good choice.”

But as Elena sat inside the car, she had no idea that this single decision would pull her deep into the dangerous world of the Mafia King.
