Ep 4 Inside The Lion's Den

The black car moved silently through the empty streets of the city.

Elena sat in the passenger seat, watching the road carefully. Her mind was racing with thoughts.

She couldn’t believe what she had just done.

She had willingly gotten into the car of Adrian Volkov, the most dangerous mafia king in the country.

Across from her, Adrian looked completely relaxed. One hand rested casually on the steering wheel while the other tapped lightly against the door.

It was as if driving an undercover agent through the city was the most normal thing in the world.

Elena finally broke the silence.

“Where are we going?”

Adrian glanced at her briefly.

“My home.”

Elena frowned.

“You’re taking a federal agent to your house?”

Adrian smirked.

“Why not?”

“That’s incredibly stupid.”

“Or incredibly confident,” Adrian replied calmly.

Elena crossed her arms.

“You must think you’re untouchable.”

Adrian didn’t respond immediately.

Instead, he turned the car onto a quiet private road surrounded by tall trees.

Then he spoke.

“Do you know why no one has ever caught me, Agent Elena?”

She looked at him suspiciously.

“Because criminals always make mistakes.”

Adrian smiled slightly.

“And yet I’m still here.”

A few minutes later, the car slowed down in front of massive iron gates.

Two guards stepped forward immediately.

As soon as they saw Adrian, they opened the gates without a word.

Elena stared ahead.

Behind the gates stood a huge modern mansion surrounded by security lights and cameras.

The place looked less like a house and more like a fortress.

The car stopped near the entrance.

Adrian stepped out first.

Elena followed him, scanning the area carefully.

Armed guards stood around the property, watching everything.

“You really live like a king,” she said.

Adrian shrugged.

“I prefer the term organized businessman.”

Elena laughed dryly.

“Right. A businessman with twenty armed guards.”

Adrian opened the large front door.

“After you, Agent.”

Elena hesitated for a moment before walking inside.

The interior of the mansion was surprisingly elegant.

Dark marble floors, tall glass windows, and expensive artwork covered the walls.

It looked nothing like the hideout of a criminal.

Adrian walked toward a large table in the center of the room.

“Sit.”

Elena remained standing.

“I’m not here for dinner.”

Adrian poured two glasses of water anyway and slid one toward her.

“You’re here because you want answers.”

Elena finally sat down.

“Fine,” she said. “Let’s start with the obvious question.”

Adrian leaned back in his chair.

“Which one?”

“How did you know I was investigating you?”

For the first time, Adrian’s expression became serious.

“Because someone told me.”

Elena’s eyes narrowed.

“Someone inside the agency?”

Adrian didn’t answer.

But the small smile on his face said enough.

Elena’s heart sank.

A traitor inside the intelligence agency?

That would explain everything.

All the failed missions.

All the agents who disappeared.

Adrian studied her carefully.

“You see the problem now,” he said quietly.

Elena looked up at him.

“You’re lying.”

Adrian shook his head slowly.

“No.”

He leaned closer across the table.

“The real question is…”

“Which of your colleagues is secretly working for me?”

Elena’s stomach tightened.

Because if Adrian was telling the truth…

Then this mission had just become far more

dangerous than she ever imagined.

And she might not know who she could trust anymore.
