like he is not some unknown kid.
“Don’t blame yourself.”
David suddenly looked up in shock.
How did she know what he was thinking?
The girl looked straight into his eyes.
“Blaming yourself gives you nothing,” she said calmly. “If something is wrong, then fix it. If something isn’t your fault, then don’t punish yourself for it.”
David’s voice was barely a whisper.
“…Why?”
The girl smiled faintly.
“No amount of guilt can change the past,” she said.
“And no amount of anxiety can change the future.”
She gently patted his head.
“So treat yourself better.”
“Sometimes the truth looks like a lie.”
“And sometimes lies look like the truth.”
David stared at her silently.
For the first time in a long time, someone had spoken to him like he also mattered.
He opened his mouth to ask something.

The place beside him was empty.
