He frowned for 0.5 seconds in confusion before his gaze landed on my swollen lips...and turned into a tomato.

Watari (his ears slightly pink): figures.

I blushed harder, looking down at the floor. "So...where is Tsubaki?"

He suddenly gasped.

Watari: i completely forgot to tell you, she said she is coming here-

He was cut off by a sharp familiar voice "Already here!!!"

We turned our heads in sync, and there she was, eyes shining, smiling wide. My best friend Tsubaki.

She yelled

Tsubaki : Oii!! Watari! How is your girlfriend doing?!

My heart sank a little at her words because... yeah, she didn't know that Kaori isn't his gf anymore.

He gave her a sad, bitter smile

Watari: not mine idiot! Kousei's now!

He chuckled despite himself.

her steps faltered while she was rushing towards us. Her wide grin was gone as she looked at me with disbelief.

I mean yeah, anyone would be shocked to hear that my best friends recent girlfriend is actually now my lover...?

But her eyes were showing something akin to betrayal than Dudley disbelief. Watari and i looked at each other, confused. "Hey...? What happened?"

I tried to smile to lighten the mood, but her eyes turned teary, face pale.

Tsubaki: how...? When...? but she told me she wanted to date watari!

I gulped "let's leave it for now…? Uhm...she is awake, alive and healthy... that's what matters"

She opened her mouth to say something but nothing came out...

I frowned "something wrong?"

She shook her head in response

As soon as kaori's parents came out, we stepped in. she was sitting upright now, leaning back for support, but her body was still weak. She turned her head slightly shy and her eyes sparkled.

Kaori: Watari-!

but that spark visibly faded when her gaze landed on Tsubaki and her smile faltered from the corners.

Kaori: Tsubaki...

She whispered softly.

Tsubaki ran and stood beside her bed

Tsubaki: Are you okay?

Kaori nodded in response... Even though i couldn't figure it out but, something was definitely going on.

I and watari looked at each other, oblivious to the tension in the room

Tsubaki kept standing there, her tone a bit off, even tho i can't see her face right now... but i know her enough to figure out, she was acting.

Tsubaki's hands, behind her back were fidgeting.

Watari frowned

Watari: i think we should step out for a bi-

Kaori cutted his sentence off.

Kaori: NO- i mean- watari...i want to talk with you.

Watari froze dead in his tracks. Tsubaki and i slipped out of the room quietly

Kaori's POV

As soon as my parents stepped out, they came in Arima, Watari and... Tsubaki.

Tsubaki huh...? My smile faltered but i tried to maintain most of it.

Tsubaki: are you okay now?

The way she ran towards me... And asked this. I was sure that she is trying to hide her expression from them.
