When Love Turns Dangerous – Chapter 2

The silence after Celine walked away felt louder than any argument she had ever had with Ryan.

Days passed, but the memories refused to fade. Every corner of her life reminded her of him—the café they used to visit, the songs they shared, even the late-night calls that once made her smile. Now, those same memories felt heavy, almost painful.

Celine tried to move on.

She spent more time with her friends, forcing herself to laugh again. She picked up her old hobbies, things she had slowly left behind while trying to keep Ryan happy. Singing, her favorite escape, became her comfort once more. For a few moments each day, she felt like herself again.

But healing wasn’t easy.

Her phone buzzed one evening. Her heart skipped.

Ryan.

She stared at the screen, her fingers frozen. Part of her wanted to ignore it. But another part—the part that still loved him—couldn’t.

Ryan: “Can we talk?”

Celine closed her eyes, taking a deep breath before replying.

Celine: “There’s nothing left to say.”

A few seconds passed.

Ryan: “Please… just once.”

Against her better judgment, she agreed.

They met at the same place where everything had ended. The air felt different this time—colder, distant.

Ryan looked tired. Not the confident, controlling person she had seen before, but someone quieter… almost broken.

“I miss you,” he said softly.

Celine’s chest tightened, but she stayed silent.

“I know I messed up,” he continued. “I didn’t realize how far I went. I thought I was protecting what we had.”

Celine finally spoke. “You weren’t protecting it… you were destroying it.”

Ryan lowered his gaze.

“I’ve been trying to change,” he said. “I’m giving you space, I’m trying not to overthink… I just— I don’t want to lose you.”

Celine’s eyes softened for a moment. She could see the effort, the regret.

But something inside her had changed.

“Ryan,” she said gently, “change doesn’t happen in a few days.”

“I know… but I can prove it. Just give me one more chance.”

The words echoed in her mind.

One more chance.

How many times had she heard that before?

Celine looked at him, really looked this time. She still cared about him. Maybe a part of her always would. But love wasn’t enough anymore.

“I hope you do change,” she said quietly. “Not for me… but for yourself.”

Ryan’s eyes filled with emotion. “So this is it?”

Celine nodded slowly.

“This is it.”

For a moment, neither of them moved.

Then Ryan stepped back, as if finally understanding. “I never thought loving you would end like this.”

Celine gave a faint, sad smile. “It didn’t end because of love… it ended because it stopped feeling like love.”

Those words hit harder than any anger ever could.

Ryan didn’t try to stop her this time.

As Celine walked away, it still hurt—but not the same way as before. This pain felt cleaner, lighter. It wasn’t fear anymore. It was closure.

For the first time, she wasn’t looking back.

And somewhere deep inside, she knew—

This was the beginning of choosing herself.
