When Love Turns Dangerous – Chapter 5

The applause felt unreal.

As Celine stood on stage, the sound of claps and cheers echoed through the auditorium. Her heart was racing, but not from fear—this time, it was pride. She had done something she once thought she lost forever.

Backstage, her friends hugged her tightly.

“You were amazing!” one of them said.

Celine smiled, still catching her breath. “I didn’t think I could do it.”

“But you did,” Aarav’s voice came from behind.

She turned, meeting his eyes. There was no exaggeration in his expression, just genuine admiration.

“You sang like you meant every word,” he added.

Celine looked down for a moment. “Maybe I did.”

The truth was, every note carried a piece of her story—her pain, her healing, and her strength.

In the following days, something began to change again.

Not in a frightening way like before.

But in a quiet, unfamiliar way.

Celine found herself talking to Aarav more often. It started with practice sessions, then casual conversations, and soon, it became something she looked forward to. He made her feel comfortable, like she didn’t have to pretend or explain herself.

One evening, as they sat on the college steps watching the sunset, Aarav spoke.

“You’ve been through something, haven’t you?”

Celine stiffened slightly.

It wasn’t the question—it was the way he asked it. Calm. Respectful. Not demanding an answer.

She hesitated. Then said softly, “Yeah… something like that.”

Aarav nodded. “You don’t have to tell me.”

That surprised her.

“You’re not curious?” she asked.

“I am,” he admitted. “But I’d rather you tell me when you’re ready… not because I asked.”

Celine felt something shift inside her.

This was new.

No pressure. No control. No fear.

Just patience.

For a moment, she stayed silent, then spoke quietly, “It wasn’t a healthy relationship.”

Aarav didn’t interrupt.

“I thought it was love,” she continued. “But it slowly became something else… something that made me feel small.”

“That must have been hard,” he said gently.

“It was,” she admitted. “But I’m better now.”

Aarav smiled slightly. “I can see that.”

There was a pause, but it wasn’t uncomfortable.

“Does it still affect you?” he asked carefully.

Celine thought for a moment. “Sometimes. But not like before. Now… it reminds me of what I don’t want again.”

Aarav nodded. “That’s not weakness, you know. That’s strength.”

His words settled softly in her heart.

For the first time, Celine didn’t feel judged for her past. She didn’t feel like she had to hide it either.

Days passed, and their bond grew stronger.

But this time, Celine was different.

She didn’t rush her feelings. She didn’t lose herself in someone else. She kept her space, her voice, and her identity intact.

One afternoon, Aarav looked at her and said, “I like spending time with you.”

Celine smiled faintly. “I like it too.”

There was something unspoken between them.

But neither of them hurried it.

Because this time, it wasn’t about filling a void.

It was about understanding, respect, and something real.

As Celine walked home that evening, she realized something important.

Love hadn’t hurt her.

The wrong kind of love did.

And now, she was finally learning the difference.
