CHAPTER 4
The evening air in Seoul was sharp, carrying the faint hum of traffic and neon reflections from the city lights. Min Jae-Hyun had finished his patrol, but sleep was the last thing on his mind. His thoughts kept drifting back to Dmitri Volkov, the Russian mafia man whose very presence made his chest tighten and his pulse quicken.
He tried to shake it off. He’s dangerous. I shouldn’t care. I won’t care. But even as he muttered the words, he knew he was lying. Dmitri had a way of occupying space in Jae-Hyun’s mind without asking permission, a magnetic force that pulled him in against his stubborn nature.
As if on cue, his phone buzzed. A message. Simple, direct, and infuriatingly unsettling: “I saw you today. You can’t hide from me.”
Jae-Hyun groaned, stuffing the phone into his pocket. Of course not. He’s everywhere.
Dmitri, meanwhile, sat in the back of a dimly lit café, Ivan close at hand. Watching Jae-Hyun from a distance had become a routine, a game of patience and predatory observation. Every flicker of resistance, every defiant glance—it fueled Dmitri’s obsession. He smiled faintly, brushing a hand over the snake tattoo on his back, a mark he wore like armor and warning.
“You’re being reckless,” Ivan murmured, noting Dmitri’s intense focus.
“Patience isn’t my style,” Dmitri replied, voice low, dangerous. “He’s stubborn… teasing. I like that. I’ll break him. Slowly. Make him mine.”
Later, Jae-Hyun returned to his apartment, trying to settle into routine, only to hear a soft knock at the door. His stomach twisted. Who else could it be but Dmitri?
He opened the door to find the man standing there, as calm and imposing as ever. “You work too hard,” Dmitri said softly, smirking. “You need a break.”
Jae-Hyun crossed his arms, stubborn pride flaring. “I don’t need you telling me how to live.”
Dmitri’s smirk deepened, a predator amused by the chase. He stepped closer, the faintest brush of his hand against Jae-Hyun’s arm sending shivers down the officer’s spine. “I don’t tell. I claim.”
Jae-Hyun’s cheeks heated. “Claim? You think you can just—”
Dmitri silenced him with a sudden, lightly censored kiss, brushing lips over Jae-Hyun’s, just enough to steal breath without surrender. The officer froze, chest heaving, eyes wide, struggling against the magnetic pull of the kiss.
Pulling back, Dmitri whispered, voice low and dangerous: “I will have you, one way or another. You can fight… but fighting makes it sweeter.”
Jae-Hyun stumbled back, trying to regain composure, flustered and angry, yet secretly trembling at the heat radiating from Dmitri. His stubborn nature screamed at him to push away—but part of him wanted more, wanted the dangerous, possessive man who refused to be denied.
Meanwhile, Alexander Kane’s interference loomed in the background, his subtle threats and polished charm making the stakes higher. Two men, both dangerous, both possessive, both obsessed—and Jae-Hyun, stubborn as ever, was caught in the center of a deadly, irresistible game of desire.
Tonight, lines were crossed. Tomorrow, the chase would intensify. And Jae-Hyun had no idea how much he was about to fall into the web Dmitri was spinning around him.
