CH4: THE MORNING AFTER AND THE JEALOUS SISTER

The morning sun gently filtered through the curtains, waking Chloe up. She slowly opened her eyes and found herself lying in a huge, comfortable bed. The room was spacious, elegant, and smelled faintly of expensive men’s cologne.

She sat up abruptly, clutching the blanket to her chest. Right. I am married. I am in Felix’s house.

She looked around and saw that she was alone. Felix was not there. She let out a breath she didn’t know she was holding, feeling a mix of relief and disappointment. Last night, after he brought her to the room, he just told her to rest and left to sleep in his study, not wanting to overwhelm her.

Chloe got up and walked towards the mirror. She looked different. Her eyes were no longer filled with sadness and fear. There was a new light in them. She was no longer Chloe Chain, the unwanted daughter. She was Chloe Reed, the wife of the most powerful man in America.

Walking down the stairs, she smelled delicious food. In the dining room, Felix was already there, sitting at the head of the table. He was wearing a white shirt with the top buttons undone, looking casual but incredibly hot. He was reading the newspaper with one hand and holding a coffee cup with the other.

"Good morning," Chloe whispered softly.

Felix looked up, and his cold face instantly melted into a smile. "Good morning, wife. Did you sleep well?"

"Yes, thank you," she replied, sitting down carefully.

Felix poured her a glass of milk and pushed a plate of pancakes towards her. "Eat. You are too thin. I need my wife healthy."

Chloe blushed and started eating. For the first time, she felt like she was part of a real family. It was quiet, peaceful, and warm.

Suddenly, the peaceful atmosphere was broken by the sound of the doorbell and loud voices.

"Brother-in-law! Chloe! We are here to visit you!"

Chloe’s face paled. It was her parents and her sister, Faye Chain.

"Did they really have to come here?" Chloe thought nervously. "What if they say something bad? What if Felix gets angry?"

The servants led them inside. Faye’s eyes immediately scanned the room, looking amazed by the luxury. She expected to see an old, dark house, but it was modern and grand.

"Where is he?" Faye whispered to her mother. "Where is the old man? Is he ugly?"

But then, they saw Felix standing up gracefully to welcome them.

Faye’s jaw dropped. Her eyes widened in shock and desire. She couldn’t believe what she was seeing. The man standing there was young, tall, muscular, and devastatingly handsome. He looked like a Greek God mixed with a dangerous devil.

"F-Felix Reed?" Faye stammered, her heart beating fast. "You... you are the husband?"

Felix looked at her with cold, uninterested eyes. He could see the greed and lust in her eyes immediately.

"Yes," Felix answered sharply. Then, he walked over to Chloe and pulled her close to his side, possessively wrapping his arm around her waist.

"And this is my wife, Chloe," Felix declared loudly, looking directly at Faye. "She is the Mistress of this house. She is the Queen here."

Faye felt like she was struck by lightning. Jealousy burned inside her chest. Why?! Why does Chloe get this handsome, rich, and powerful man?! I am the beautiful one! I am the smart one! He should have been mine!

Her parents were also shocked, but they were more happy about the connection. However, they felt intimidated by Felix’s aura.

Felix looked at Faye’s greedy eyes and smirked inwardly. You wanted her place, sister? Too bad. She is mine now. And I will never let anyone take her away from me.

"Since you are here," Felix said coldly, "sit down. But remember... in this house, you respect my wife. Or you leave."

Chloe looked up at Felix, feeling tears of gratitude in her eyes. For the first time, someone was standing up for her.
