Chapter 2 :- Under the litchi trees

That time, I was just six years old… and life was so simple. There were no worries, no understanding of complicated feelings. My days were only about playing, laughing, and enjoying every little moment.

Near our house, there was a big open field filled with litchi trees. It was summer, and the season of picking litchis had begun. That day, my mother was there, and so was his mother. They already knew each other, so they were busy talking.

I was standing nearby, a little shy… when I noticed him properly for the first time.

He had come with his elder brother. His brother behaved very normally with me, as if we already knew each other. And him… he was a little different.

There was a playful spark in his eyes.

He suddenly came near me and said,

“Why are you so quiet? Don’t you want to play?”

I didn’t say anything… I just looked at him.

Then he quickly plucked a litchi and placed it in my hand,

“Here… now you have to talk.”

I smiled a little… and maybe that was where everything began.

That day, we picked litchis together, ate them, and then started playing. Sometimes he teased me, sometimes I ran away from him. He would try to catch me, and I would laugh loudly without any reason.

He was very funny.

Sometimes he pretended to fall, sometimes he made strange faces… just to make me laugh. And I… I laughed without thinking about anything else.

His elder brother would join us sometimes, but mostly he just watched us and smiled.

After that day, whenever we met in the field, we simply played together. Our conversations were small and meaningless, yet they felt special. Sometimes he would ask,

“What should we play today?”

And I would quickly reply, “Hide and seek!”

Then we would run all over the field, lost in our own little world.

I didn’t know what all this meant… but I liked being around him. I liked hearing his laughter. And on the days he wasn’t there, I didn’t feel like playing at all.

But I was too young to understand any of it.

For me, he was just a friend to play with…

And for him, I was probably just a normal friend too.

But maybe… these small memories slowly turn into something much bigger

Sometimes, I didn’t even realize how fast time passed when I was with him. The sun would start setting, and our mothers would call us back home, yet I always wished for a little more time. Even while leaving, he would say something funny that made me laugh all the way home. Those small moments stayed with me, quietly becoming my favorite part of every day.

That day, under the litchi trees, a simple friendship had begun…

One that would slowly start meaning more to me.

But at that time…

We were just two kids,

Laughing freely, without any worries.☺️
