It's freshers at the IIM I've studied and worked so hard for, though my father could've bought me a seat somewhere else, this is the freedom I always wanted. My phone rang, it's my family,"Hello, amma Saha! How's the college?" My father spoke from the other side of the phone, "Yes appa, everything is fine and everyone is good. I have a fresher's party right now that I have to attend." I say as I rush to grab my purse. "Well, be careful and stay aware all the time. Love you sweetheart." My father ends the call with a kiss before I can respond.
Shit, I can't be late to the first event at the college I worked for. I hurriedly rushed to the auditorium. Surprisingly enough, I wasn't the only person running late because I ran into a guy almost falling on him, "Are you okay?" he asked me knowing I'm completely unfazed. "Yes, I'm fine. What about you? Argh, never mind we're running late!" I say as I drift away from him. But he's a guy, he catches up very quickly in a few steps, "Never seen a woman drift away so fast in stilettos." he grins. I roll back my eyes and take a good look at him.
He's wearing a black and black shirt and trousers, tucked in, top button undone, layered with a blood maroon blazer paired with dress boots and a watch that goes with it. Good fashion sense, and he does have the face and hair for it. "Miss, I'm talking to you!" he snaps me out of my zoning out. I just nod my head and part ways with him. What a weird interaction.
There's the auditorium, and thankfully there's nothing that I missed. I find myself a seat, ironic that they have such a huge auditorium for such a small amount of people. "Hey, mind if I sit next to you?" a pretty girl in glasses asks me, "Sure, yes you can." I tell her as she sits next to me, "Feel comfortable, I'm not going to hurt you." I smile as I say that. "Oh! That's good to hear, hopefully." she laughs. The headmaster or whoever starts their speech and goes on yapping about "The Great IIM of Goa", I have the urge to tell him to save that speech till the end of a semester so that we could actually react to it and not just get hyped about it.
I look around aimlessly just to find the same weird guy stuffing himself with something... Wait, are those pieces of raw mangoes? Where the prick did he find raw mangoes? "You've been awkwardly silent..." the girl next to me taps on my shoulder. "Oh, was I supposed to talk? I'm sorry, I'm Sahana, you can call me Saha. And you are…?" I blurted out. "That's fine! I'm Meenakshi, you can call me Meenu." she replies, "What were you thinking about?" she continues, "Nothing, just wondering where someone could get raw mangoes." I answer. "Don't bother thinking too much, they might make my stomach upset." I continue.
At last, THE speech ended.
