chapter 4

Chapter 4

I walked into my small apartment, kicking off my shoes. The quiet of my room wrapped around me like a blanket. At nineteen, life had already taught me that being an orphan meant relying on no one but myself.

I paused for a moment, thinking about him — King Alaric Mercer. That faint, unassuming smile, the way he had let the boys hit him and then walked away as if nothing had happened. I shook my head, smirking slightly.

I didn’t dwell. Just a thought, nothing more. I sighed, letting the moment pass, and slid under the covers. Sleep came quietly, almost peacefully.

The next day at school, my eyes found him immediately. Bandages lined his face, and faint bruises marked his arms. Nothing too serious — but enough to notice.

I leaned against the locker nearby, scanning him with deliberate curiosity. He was calm, composed, almost serene, and I couldn’t help the teasing smirk tugging at my lips.

As I approached him, I paused suddenly. “Oh… I forgot to ask. How old are you?”

He looked up at me, eyes soft despite the marks. “Seventeen.”

I raised an eyebrow. I'm Nineteen,so… I’m older than you,” I said, tilting my head playfully.

He didn’t react beyond a simple nod, calm as ever.

I leaned closer, smirking, lowering my voice. “From now on… you’ll be my slave. You’ll do whatever I ask, Do you hear me?

He looked at me, eyes soft and steady, and said quietly, “Ok.”

I blinked, startled by how easily he agreed. A teasing grin spread across my face. “The way you’re saying it… it’s like you like me.”

“Yes,” he said simply, calm and direct.

I froze. My mind stuttered. “Why?”

“None of your business,” he replied, then started walking away.

I called out after him, teasing, “Hey… slave! Stop.”

He paused, glancing back, calm and unreadable.

I stepped closer, closing the small distance. “I hate it when you try to be bossy or rude. I’m the one in charge here, remember?”

He tilted his head slightly, eyes soft, almost hesitant, and said quietly, “Sorry.”

I laughed softly, playful and teasing. “Good… but I prefer you call me… ‘Mommy.’ Since I’m older than you, right, kid?”

His lips twitched into a faint smile, eyes calm but steady. “Ok… Mommy.”

And then, without warning, he leaned forward and pressed a soft kiss to my cheek.

I froze for a moment, blinking, heart skipping.

Then he straightened, looking at me innocently. “Can I go, Mommy?”

I just nodded, stunned, still processing the gesture.

He gave me a final glance, calm, almost teasing in his quiet way, then walked away.

I remained there, heart pounding, mind spinning… , since my entire 19 years of life I've never met someone so confusing like him.

Who really are you King Alaric Mercer
