The next morning, I didn't hesitate to wake up by 6 to avoid my father's wrath on me. I went to the training room and met him there meditating.
"You're early. I'm impressed." he said without looking up.
"It's not like you'll be happy if I was late." I sighed. Then, I went towards him and sat down beside him. He then looked at me and smiled.
"You know what this is?" he asked.
"Yeah. Yoga. It cools the mind and body, keeping it at rest."
" Good, my girl. I like that. You have been taught well. "
" Thanks dad. you took me to a good school. "
My father then looked at me again, this time with a confused expression on his face. I looked at him back and was confused also.
"What?"
"Why are you being so respectful?" he asked suspiciously. I laughed, then looked away.
"Are you surprised? I just want to learn today. To know how to defend myself. Someone in my class is going there too."
" What? Why?"
" I don't know. Maybe cause his parents forced him too? " I said sarcastically.
" I liked when you were respectful. Keep that up. " he said and I sighed.
" So is this what we learn today?"
"This is the first step."
" But I already know about it, and probably how to do it too." I complained.
" Do it. Make sure you're not thinking about anything else. Just focusing on the exercise you are doing. "
I positioned myself well, the cold morning air bit at my skin as I stepped onto the yoga mat. My father was already waiting, his hands clasped behind his back, his expression unreadable.
"Stand properly," he said.
"Yeah, I thought I knew how to do it " I groaned.
I straightened immediately, placing my feet together and letting my arms rest at my sides.
"Close your eyes. Breathe in through your nose... slowly. Hold it. Now breathe out."
" Dad..."
" Shh. No noise." he said and I sighed.
I obeyed, filling my lungs before releasing the breath as steadily as I could.
"Again."
After several slow breaths, he nodded toward the mat.
"Raise your arms."
I lifted both arms above my head until they were beside my ears.
"Higher. Stretch them."
My shoulders ached as I reached upward, trying to lengthen my body.
"Now bend forward. Don't bend your knees."
I folded at my waist, reaching for the floor. My fingertips barely brushed the mat.
"That's not low enough."
I gritted my teeth and stretched farther until my palms finally touched the ground.
"Hold it. Count to twenty."
I obeyed, counting as fast as I could. Every second made my legs burn, but I stayed still.
"Up." he said.
I rose carefully, then followed him into a lunge, one foot in front of the other.
"Keep your back leg straight."
He walked around me, adjusting my shoulders with a firm hand.
"Your balance is weak."
I fixed my posture before moving into a plank. My arms shook almost instantly.
"Don't let your hips drop."
Sweat rolled down my face and onto the mat.
"Lower."
I eased myself toward the floor before pushing into a cobra pose, my chest lifting while my hips stayed pressed against the mat.
"Look forward, not down."
I obeyed.
"Now push back."
I pressed my hands into the mat and lifted my hips high into an inverted V. My heels strained to touch the floor.
"Breathe," he commanded. "Pain means you're improving. Panic means you're losing focus."
" I think it's panic this time." I sighed.
My breathing steadied despite the ache spreading through every muscle. When he finally told me to stand, I thought we were finished.
"We're starting over," he said without a hint of sympathy.
" What? Is there no resting time?" I cried.
" No. There is no time. You won't disgrace me on that day." he said.
" Why does it mean so much to you?" I asked and he glanced at me.
" I have my reasons for taking you to that school."
" Yeah. I know that right. What else?"
"That school is not just any school, Sera. It's my legacy."
" You have a legacy there? I don't understand."
" With time you will get to understand better. And then you will have to make choices. But for now, let's concentrate on passing the test." he said.
" We're starting over." he repeated.
I swallowed my exhaustion, returned to the front of the mat, and raised my arms once more.
By 8, we were through. My legs burned like as if they were actually on fire. I couldn't walk well. But my dad helped me to go to the dining where he prepared breakfast and served me. He sat opposite me, watching me eat, with a blank face. I finally looked up after a few large bites that could full me.
"Why aren't you eating?" I asked.
"I'm not hungry." he said.
" Lies. you never eat. "
" I do. You just don't notice. "
" Okay, well why don't you eat when I'm around? "
" I do have a question for you, Sera. " he said.
" I asked a question first. "
"I know. But my question will answer yours."
" Okay. what is the question? " I asked, resuming my eating.
" How do you feel eating normal foods? "
" What?" I immediately stopped eating and asked, food still in my mouth. "What do you mean?"
"Does it taste good in your mouth?"
"Of course. You're a nice cook." I complimented.
" Well, that's disappointing. My food don't taste good in my mouth. So I eat outside. " he sighed.
" Really. But before mom died, do you eat her food?"
" Yeah, why won't I? " he chuckled nervously.
I stared at him for a while before I continued eating and he watched. After I was through eating, I managed to go to my room and took a shower. Then I came out and changed into something better. I laid back on my bed and took my phone to check my messages.
After I was through replying my messages, I went over to my Instagram and scrolled through. I and Adrian were friends already so I could see his posts. But there was a particular post from him that I saw.
'Humans and demons. Ravenhold, seriously? '
"Huh?" I was confused. What does it mean. Why did he have to mention Ravenhold academy.
I checked the comment section and saw lots of random comments. But there were few that caught my attention.
'blood. '
'do you really want to start this, commander? '
'hey. you blood or moon? '
"What in the actual f*ck is going on? Who are you, Adrian?" I asked myself, thinking deeply. Then I viewed his page.
