DEADLY VENGEANCE

DEADLY VENGEANCE

The Night Everything Changed

Rain pounded against the windshield as Ethan Cole tightened his grip on the steering wheel. The storm had swallowed the city, turning every street into a blur of shimmering lights and dark shadows. Thunder rolled across the sky, but it wasn't the weather that made his heart race.

Something felt wrong.

His phone buzzed for the fifth time in ten minutes. The caller ID read Mom.

Ethan frowned. His mother never called this many times unless it was important.

He answered immediately.

"Mom?"

All he heard was heavy breathing.

Then came a frightened whisper.

"Ethan... don't come home."

The line crackled.

"They're here."

His mother's voice trembled as if she were trying not to cry.

"They know everything."

A loud crash echoed through the phone.

Someone screamed.

The call ended.

For a moment, the world stood still.

"No... no!"

Ethan slammed his foot on the accelerator. His car shot through the rain-soaked streets, ignoring red lights and blaring horns. Every second felt like an hour.

He called back.

No answer.

Again.

Nothing.

His chest tightened as fear turned into panic.

Twenty minutes later, he reached the quiet neighborhood where he had grown up.

Blue and red emergency lights flashed across the wet pavement.

Police cars surrounded his family home.

Yellow tape blocked the entrance.

Smoke drifted into the cold night air.

Ethan stumbled out of the car.

"What happened?" he shouted.

An officer stepped in front of him.

"You can't go in."

"My family is inside!"

The officer hesitated before lowering his eyes.

"I'm sorry."

Those two words shattered Ethan's world.

He pushed past the officers and ran toward the house.

The front door hung open.

Furniture lay broken across the living room.

Blood stained the wooden floor.

His breathing became uneven.

"Mom?"

No answer.

"Dad?"

Silence.

He forced himself forward.

Every step felt heavier than the last.

Then he saw them.

His father lay motionless near the staircase.

His mother rested against the wall, her hand still clutching a family photograph.

Ethan dropped to his knees.

His voice broke into uncontrollable sobs.

He held his mother's cold hand.

"I'm here..."

"I'm so sorry."

Tears blurred his vision.

This couldn't be real.

Only hours ago they had laughed together over dinner, arguing about who made the best jollof rice.

Now they were gone.

Forever.

Footsteps echoed behind him.

Several detectives entered the room.

One of them stared directly at Ethan.

"Mr. Ethan Cole?"

He slowly nodded.

"You are under arrest."

Ethan looked up in disbelief.

"What?"

"You have the right to remain silent."

Cold metal handcuffs clicked around his wrists.

"You are being charged with the murder of Richard and Grace Cole."

His mind went blank.

"What are you talking about?"

"I would never hurt them!"

The detective's expression never changed.

"We found your fingerprints on the murder weapon."

Ethan stared at him.

"My fingerprints?"

"Impossible."

"We also have security footage showing you entering this house."

"I live here!"

His words fell on deaf ears.

Neighbors watched from outside as officers led him away.

Some whispered.

Others pointed.

The headlines the next morning were merciless.

LOCAL BUSINESSMAN'S SON MURDERS PARENTS FOR INHERITANCE.

Within a single night, Ethan lost everything.

His family.

His reputation.

His freedom.

...

Three years later.

The prison bell echoed through the concrete halls.

Ethan sat alone on the edge of his bunk, staring at the wall.

Three years had changed him.

The cheerful young man who once believed in justice no longer existed.

His face carried scars.

His hands had hardened.

His eyes had lost every trace of innocence.

Prison had taught him one lesson.

Trust no one.

A guard stopped outside his cell.

"Cole."

Ethan stood.

"You've got a visitor."

He frowned.

"No one visits me."

"Well..."

The guard unlocked the door.

"Someone just did."

Inside the visitation room sat an elderly man wearing a black suit.

Silver hair.

Sharp blue eyes.

An expensive walking cane rested beside him.

He looked nothing like Ethan expected.

The old man smiled faintly.

"You've grown."

Ethan remained standing.

"Do I know you?"

"My name is Victor Harrington."

"I was your father's closest friend."

"My father never mentioned you."

Victor nodded.

"Because he was protecting you."

Ethan's expression darkened.

"What do you want?"

Victor leaned forward.

"The people who murdered your parents are still alive."

The room fell silent.

Ethan's heartbeat quickened.

"What did you say?"

"You heard me."

"They framed you."

"They bribed the police."

"They erased every piece of evidence."

Ethan clenched his fists.

"I knew it."

Victor placed a thick brown envelope on the table.

Inside were photographs.

Bank records.

Confidential documents.

Names.

Faces.

Powerful people.

Politicians.

Business executives.

Police commissioners.

All connected.

"They call themselves..."

Victor paused.

"The Circle."

"They control everything."

Ethan looked at the photographs one after another.

One face caught his attention.

Detective Marcus Hale.

The very man who arrested him.

A surge of anger rushed through Ethan's body.

Victor quietly said, "Your father discovered their illegal operations."

"He planned to expose them."

"So they silenced him."

"And blamed you."

Ethan's hands trembled.

Years of pain suddenly made sense.

Victor stood.

"I've spent years gathering evidence."

"But I'm too old to finish this."

He looked Ethan directly in the eyes.

"You can."

The prison alarm suddenly blared.

Guards shouted through the hallway.

Victor smiled.

"Right on time."

"What?"

Before Ethan could react, explosions echoed outside the prison walls.

The building shook violently.

Prisoners screamed.

Smoke filled the corridors.

Emergency sirens wailed.

Victor calmly adjusted his tie.

"I told you..."

"They control everything."

"But today..."

He slid a small key across the table.

"Your revenge begins."

Ethan picked up the key.

For the first time in three years...

He smiled.

It wasn't the smile of an innocent man.

It was the smile of someone who had nothing left to lose.
