By Gabriel
The day after Declan's trip,
A news item circulated in the media, but only until noon, as someone deleted it. However, I managed to see that it was about Samantha. According to what I read, she had caused an accident and fled, after ending someone's life. Reading that, I was sure it wasn't the Samantha I knew, as she would never do something like that. Then I thought that news was false, given that the information no longer appeared and the press wasn't speculating anything. But I never imagined that it was her own father who deleted that news so that her acquaintances wouldn't know what was happening. But, to his misfortune, through a friend who was a prosecutor, I found out about the case, and the worst of all was what he told me.
"Steven will be the prosecutor in charge of the trial that will take place tomorrow. That poor girl is incommunicado. It's as if nobody cares about her. I wanted it to be someone who wasn't related to her, but knowing it was Steven, I thought it would be best for her. But from what I've heard, it seems that he doesn't want her to see the light of day again," he blurted out.
"Why do you say that?" I asked.
"Because of the public defender they gave her. That poor man does nothing to help her, he just wants her to plead guilty."
"Public defender?" I asked incredulously.
"Why wasn't her family helping her and paying for the best lawyer; they have a good position, after all." (I thought but didn't say it).
My friend only told me that, then said goodbye and went on his way. The worst of all was that I didn't know how to contact Declan, as he was incommunicado. So I immediately contacted the best law firm, just to find that man; "Maximo d'luca," this was the best lawyer in the country. He had gotten several alleged criminals out of jail. I knew he wasn't just any lawyer; he was a fair man and held Declan in high esteem, but even so, when he saw me, he just said he didn't have time. He practically wanted to kick me out of his office without even hearing me, only when I said; "Declan Stone;" he gave me a strange look and let me continue.
"Tell me; what does Declan need?" he said without so much beating around the bush.
I didn't know where to start. That man really scared me. I was used to the terror that my cousin instilled in others and even in me, but this man looked almost like him; the difference is that I didn't know this one at all.
So I just let out the air; which I seemed to be holding, and told him what I had heard. The moment I stopped, he looked at me strangely and said in the coldest voice I had ever heard, "You told me it was about Declan, but nowhere in your story do you mention him."
"I apologize, my mistake," I said, as I had forgotten to tell him the most important thing. "That young woman they are accusing is the only person Declan shows love for, so please, I ask you to help me, because if Declan comes back and finds out what's happening to her, I know he's capable of wiping out the entire city."
"Interesting!" he said and continued;
"Tell me how it is that you are the one asking me this and not Declan. If I understand correctly, he is not in the country, but he could also use this to communicate with me," the man says, showing his cell phone. So Gabriel has no choice but to tell him why Declan left and is not aware of anything.
When Maximo heard that the prosecutor was the young woman's fiance and that Declan had left, so as not to see her marrying another, he just nodded and understood why he had suddenly disappeared.
So he just said, "What time does the trial start?"
"According to my friend, it's at 10 in the morning."
I know he won't have much time to prepare, but at least he won't be waiting to just be judged like her current lawyer.
Maximo just nodded and told him that he would be there. Once Gabriel left, Maximo called his secretary and asked her to call several of his contacts, as well as call the place where the young woman was being held, asking for the images they had collected. After seeing all the information after two hours, he just denied it and smiled.
For some reason, the young man had a rather cold look, especially when he saw that no one was getting any information about it. It seemed they wanted to keep everything hidden, they wanted to judge her and leave her forgotten as if the young woman didn't exist, "pathetic;" he said between his teeth.
The morning of the trial had arrived;
In that week, Samantha realized that no one would help her. That lawyer didn't even ask her about what happened. It seemed that he was only there because he had no other choice. She couldn't defend herself either; she still had two years left and knew that they had alleged evidence against her, so what could she do? In those moments, she only thought of someone who might be the only person who would believe in her.
But he wasn't there and she imagined that it would be a while without even hearing from him. What she never imagined was that through him, a great wolf would be the one to defend her.
Maximo's nickname was; "the wolf d'lucca," because he tore apart those who opposed his clients, somehow he always got the truth.
So while she just waited for her cruel fate,
Maximo just walked through that court with his head held high. Once he entered, he saw the young woman with her head down in her hands and the prosecutor looking at her with disdain.
"Damn idiot," he said in his mind. The judge had just arrived and everyone immediately stood up.
"Okay, take a seat. Let's start the trial," said the man, somewhat annoyed. He knew those present, so he didn't understand what had happened;
So he would just hear what had happened from their mouths. He knows that reading a report doesn't always indicate that they are the real facts.
