Chapter 2 — The World Beyond the Door

The adventure had truly begun.

For a moment, Luna felt as if she were floating.

The golden light surrounded her, warm and gentle, like sunlight after a long winter. The air felt different—softer, almost magical. When the light finally faded, Luna slowly opened her eyes.

She gasped.

The world before her was nothing like the hill behind her school.

The sky stretched endlessly above them, glowing with shades of soft pink and gold. Floating islands drifted peacefully in the air like quiet clouds. Waterfalls poured down from the edges of the islands, sparkling like liquid diamonds in the sunlight.

“This… this is impossible,” Luna whispered.

She took a small step forward, her eyes wide with wonder.

Haru stood beside her, calm as if this place was completely normal to him. “Welcome,” he said quietly, “to the world behind the doors.”

Luna turned to him immediately. “You mean there are more doors like this one?”

“Yes,” Haru replied. “Many of them.”

He looked up at the glowing sky for a moment before continuing.

“They appear in different places in the human world. My job is to find them… and make sure nothing dangerous escapes from them.”

Luna blinked. “Dangerous?”

Haru didn’t answer right away.

Instead, he began walking along a narrow stone path that stretched across the floating island. After a second of hesitation, Luna quickly followed him.

As they walked, she noticed strange glowing flowers growing along the path. Tiny lights floated around them like fireflies.

“It’s so beautiful,” she said softly.

Haru glanced at her from the corner of his eye.

Most people who accidentally discovered the doors reacted with fear. But Luna looked completely different.

She looked happy.

Curious.

Almost like she belonged here.

“Hey,” Luna suddenly said, breaking the silence. “Why did you let me come here?”

Haru stopped walking.

For a brief moment, he seemed unsure of what to say.

“I didn’t,” he finally replied. “You came anyway.”

Luna laughed lightly. “That’s not what I meant.”

The wind moved gently through the tall grass around them.

Haru looked at her again, studying her face carefully.

“I let you come,” he said slowly, “because something about you feels… different.”

“Different?” Luna repeated.

Before he could explain, a strange sound echoed across the island.

A low rumble.

The ground beneath their feet trembled slightly.

Luna froze. “Did you feel that?”

Haru’s expression instantly changed.

The calm look in his eyes disappeared, replaced by sharp alertness.

“Yes,” he said quietly.

He stepped in front of Luna protectively.

From the edge of the floating island, a dark mist slowly began to rise, twisting and moving like it was alive.

Luna’s heart started beating faster.

“Haru… what is that?”

Haru didn’t take his eyes off the shadow.

His voice was calm, but serious.

“That,” he said, “is exactly why these doors must stay closed.”

The mist suddenly moved faster.

And for the first time since entering this beautiful world, Luna realized something important.

Not everything behind the doors was peaceful.

Some things…

Were waiting to escape.
