My Genius Hedgehog

My Genius Hedgehog

Episode 1: The genius hedgehog

It was a gloomy, rainy day in the city. Kira sat in the backseat of the car, staring out the window as the rain pounded against the glass. She was lost in thought, wondering why her parents bring her to his grandma and grandpa. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tanaka, sat in the front seats, chatting idly about their upcoming business trip.

"Kira, we're almost there," her mom said, turning around to glance at her. "Your grandparents are excited to see you."

Kira nodded, her expression neutral. She didn't bother telling them that she'd already calculated the exact time of arrival, the probability of rain stopping, and the likelihood of her grandparents having her favorite snacks ready.

The truth was, Kira's parents didn't really care about her. They were too busy with their high-powered careers to bother with their genius daughter. And now, they were dumping her off at her grandparents' place because she was being transferred to a prestigious academy for gifted students.

Kira had aced the entrance exams, of course. She was a prodigy, a master of multiple subjects, and a virtuoso on the piano. But her parents didn't seem to care about her achievements. They just wanted to get her out of the way so they could focus on their own lives.

As the car pulled up to her grandparents' large house, Kira felt nothing, but she loved her grandparents, and they loved her. They were the only ones who truly understood her.

"Ah, Kira-chan!" her grandmother exclaimed, opening the door and beaming at her. "Welcome, dear! We've missed you!"

Kira forced a smiled, and hugged her grandparents, then turned to her parents, who were already getting back into the car.

"Bye, Kira," her mom said, waving distractedly. "Be good, okay?"

Kira sigh and turned back to her grandma as her parents drove away. "Grandma, I'll go upstairs and arrange my belongings."

"Take your time, dear," her grandmother replied gently, her voice warm and understanding. "I’ll have your favorite matcha cookies ready when you come back down. And don't worry your grandfather has already fixed the wobbly leg on that old desk in your room, just like you asked."

Kira felt a small, rare flicker of warmth in her chest. That was the difference. She hadn't even needed to explain why the wobbly leg mattered, or how it would disrupt her workflow if left unfixed. They just did it, because they knew it mattered to her

She nodded, murmuring a soft "Thanks, Grandma," before heading up the wide staircase. She gripped the handle of her large suitcase.

Reaching her room, she closed the door softly behind her and let out a long, quiet breath. The space was familiar, smelling faintly of lavender and old paper.

It was her sanctuary. Here, she didn't have to make small talk, or force smiles, or explain the way her brain processed information faster than most people could speak. She was just... Kira.

She put down her suitcase and jump onto the bed staring at the ceiling. "Sieka highschool? With full of smart students that can easily find a job without entering in college." Kira sigh rolling in her bed. "Now it's time to show who is the real genius."
