Chapter 4: The Script and the Secret

The movie filming was in full swing, but the "Mummy" (Chu San) was still struggling. He was trying to write a scene about a hero’s motivation, but Liu Yi kept rejecting it.

"Why does the hero want to save the world?" Liu Yi asked, leaning against a crate of prop guns. "That’s boring. He should do it because someone insulted his mother or stole his favorite gold watch."

Chu San sighed, rubbing his bandaged forehead. "It's about *justice*, Liu Yi-ge. People like heroes who have a good heart."

Liu Yi laughed, a sharp, cold sound. "In the Walled City, justice is just a word people use before they get stabbed. Write what you know, Finance Boy. Or better yet, write what *I* like."

Later that evening, the set grew quiet. Chu San was sitting alone, working by the light of a single flickering bulb. Liu Yi walked over, but he wasn't shouting this time. He sat down next to Chu San and grabbed the notebook.

He flipped through the pages, staring at the neat handwriting he couldn't actually read.

"You use a lot of big words," Liu Yi remarked, his voice unusually soft.

"I'm just trying to make the characters feel real," Chu San replied, surprised by the lack of aggression.

Liu Yi looked at Chu San, his eyes scanning the bandages he had caused. For a second, the "Monster" looked almost human. "You’re a weird kid. You’re terrified of me, yet you still argue with me about 'justice.' Why don't you just run away?"

Chu San looked down at his hands. "Where would I go? You’d find me. And besides... I have to finish what I started. My father taught me that."

Liu Yi’s expression shifted. He leaned in closer, his shadow looming over the small student. "What you like... it isn't books or finance, is it? You like the feeling of being needed. Even if it's by someone like me."

Chu San’s heart skipped a beat. He didn't know if it was fear or something else. Before he could answer, Xiao Ma ran onto the set, looking panicked.

"Boss! The rival gang—they’re moving into the North District! They say the movie set is on their territory now!"

The soft moment was gone instantly. Liu Yi stood up, his face turning back into a mask of cold steel. He grabbed his jacket and checked his blade.

"Stay here, Mummy," Liu Yi commanded. "If you move an inch from this chair, I'll break the other leg. I have a 'territory dispute' to settle."

As Liu Yi walked into the darkness, Chu San realized that the "story" he was writing was starting to happen in real life—and he was right in the middle of the crossfire.
