Kiara's Hidden Agenda
Rule #1: Don’t ship two of your friends if you don’t want to ruin your life.
Rule #2: If they’re hot, Rule #1 is invalid.
I’m Kiara Solene. I’m 17, in grade 12, top 5 in my class, and the secret admin of @LukaKaiDaily.
Kai Lumiere has been my best friend since grade 8. He’s cute, with a smile that makes you feel like he knows something you don’t. He’s not too quiet, and he’s not loud in class either.
Luka Smith is Kai’s best friend and my friend too. He’s not quiet either—actually, he’s a bit loud. They’re about the same height.
And then something happened.
It was just a small thing.
But in my brain, corrupted by BL manga and 2 a.m. Wattpad fics, that was already Chapter One of my canon ship.
And me?
I’m just the one getting a headache wondering why they still haven’t kissed.
But first, let me tell you how it all started.
Back in grade 7, I was already obsessed with BL stories. I read almost every BL story I could find. At that time, I didn’t know Kai and Luka yet.
When I started grade 8, I met them and we became close. Our friendship lasted three years. The three of us were still close when we reached grade 11, and that’s when something happened that gave me a reason to ship them.
One day after class, I realized I’d left something in the classroom, so I went back to get it. As I got closer, I heard two familiar voices. I was still a bit far, so I couldn’t tell who they were.
When I opened the classroom door, I saw my two friends in what looked like an embrace. Luka was sitting on a chair while Kai was holding his necktie, their faces close together.
I was too caught up in the moment to leave right away. Then they both looked at me.
“Ahh, s-sorry! I’ll go out—continue what you’re doing. Bye!” I said and quickly stepped out.
“You’ve got it all wrong—”
They didn’t get to finish. I was already walking away, still squealing inside.
“Oh my god!! Did I really see that right? Sheesh~” I whispered to myself as I walked down the hallway.
Because of that, I forgot I’d gone back for the thing I left behind. But it was worth it—I’d discovered something.
That’s how I started shipping them.
Now that I’m in grade 12, I still ship them. I still get giddy every time I see them together.
As I sat at my chair, I saw them together again, and I instantly got excited because my ship was sailing.
“They’re together again. Do you want me to label you two?” I muttered to myself with a smile.
While I was spacing out watching them, I didn’t notice they had already approached me.
“Kiara, are you okay? Do you want to come with us to buy something at the canteen?” one of them asked.
“No thanks, I don’t want to mess up your dat— I mean, your quality time together,” I said, smiling like a weirdo.
“O-okay,” they replied, looking a little weirded out. I know I’m weird, okay?
After recess, everyone went back to their seats. While our math teacher was teaching, I suddenly saw Luka and Kai whispering to each other.
“Hmmm,” I muttered under my breath.
“Miss Solene, are you even listening to my class!?” our teacher snapped at me when she noticed I wasn’t paying attention.
“Sorry, Ma’am,” I said, quickly turning my attention to our teacher.
After that, the teacher resumed the lesson, but because my mind was already elsewhere, I didn’t understand a thing.
“Kai, teach me math. I didn’t get it,” I said to Kai.
“That’s what happens when you don’t listen properly,” he teased me.
“Never mind, I’ll ask Luka instead! Hmph!” I shot back and walked away.
“Luka! Teach me tomorrow, pleaseee,” I said to him with a smile.
“Fine. But listen in class next time, okay?” he sighed before agreeing.
“Yayyy!! See, Luka’s not like someone else!” I said loudly enough for Kai to hear.
“Yeah, yeah, Luka it is,” he replied with a laugh.
After a full day of classes, it was finally time to go home. While I was cleaning up, I overheard a group of girls whispering in the corner, so I went over to see what was up.
“Guys, what’s the tea?” I chimed in.
“Girl, we’re just talking about the BL we’re reading,” one of my classmates replied.
“Ahh, can I join—”
I didn’t get to finish because Luka and one of his guy friends suddenly cut us off.
“Hey!! Stop gossiping and clean up, you lazybones,” he said to us.
“Chill, we’re just gossiping a little,” I shot back before going back to cleaning.
Once we finished cleaning, I grabbed my bag and headed home.
While walking down the street, I saw Kai and Luka together again, and my inner BL shipper immediately went wild.
“Wow, is that a date?” I said to myself, grinning like an idiot.
I was so busy imagining them kissing that I didn’t notice they’d already spotted me.
“Kiara!! Come walk with us!” Kai called out.
“Yeah, come on!” Luka added.
“Can I join? But I don’t want to ruin their quality time. Ahh, I know—I’ll just be careful and observe them,” I thought to myself.
“Okay!” I said, then crossed the street to catch up with them. Of course, I positioned myself behind them so I wouldn’t disturb them.
While they were chatting, I was busy observing them, probably looking like an idiot from behind.
“Kiara, are you sick?” Kai asked me.
“No!!! I’m just out of patience with you two. Just kiss already and make Luka your boyfriend!!!!” That’s what I wanted to say, but obviously, I couldn’t.
“I’m fine,” I replied simply to Kai’s question.
"Are you sure, huh." he replied.
When we got to our respective apartments, I went inside right away, changed clothes, and went to my room to put my stuff on my desk.
"Ugh, I'm so tired," I muttered to myself as I flopped onto the bed.
While I was lying on the bed, my phone suddenly rang.
_Ring!_
"Hello?" I answered, since the number was unknown.
"It's me, Robhe!" she said.
"OMG, Robhe!! I missed you!" I replied, nearly crying from happiness.
Wait, let me tell you about her since you don't know her yet. She's Robhe Smith, Luka Smith's twin sister. I met her back in 9th grade when we went to Luka's house to work on a project. We clicked right away and became best friends, but she transferred to another school because she had to.
Back to the present.
"I miss you so much, Kiara!!" she said, and I could clearly hear her crying.
"I miss you too. I lost contact with you for so long," I said, tearing up but smiling at the same time.
"How have you been?" she asked me.
"I'm okay, Robhe. How about you?" I replied.
"I'm okay," she answered.
We ended up talking on the phone for two hours because it had been so long since we'd last spoken. After our long conversation, we hung up since it was already late at night. I didn't even eat dinner because I fell asleep right after.
