Episode 2 - Waiting for Tomorrow

The next morning, Aisha woke up earlier than usual.

She carefully wore her neatly ironed school uniform and stood in front of the mirror. She brushed her hair twice, making sure not a single strand was out of place. Her mother smiled as she watched her daughter checking herself over and over again.

"You look beautiful," her mother said warmly.

Aisha smiled shyly.

"Do you think... I'll make a friend today?"

Her mother gently tucked a loose strand of hair behind Aisha's ear.

"I think every friendship starts with a little patience."

Those words stayed in Aisha's mind all the way to school.

As she entered the classroom, she looked around with quiet excitement.

Maybe today someone would wave at her.

Maybe someone would save her a seat.

Maybe someone would remember her name.

But the classroom was already filled with laughter. Children were talking in little groups as if they had known each other forever.

No one noticed when she quietly walked to her desk.

She sat down, placed her bag beside her chair, and looked out of the window.

"It's okay," she whispered to herself. "The day has only just begun."

The teacher started the lessons, and Aisha listened carefully. She loved learning. Every answer written on the blackboard fascinated her, and she worked hard to complete every exercise before anyone else.

The teacher often praised her.

"Very good, Aisha."

Each compliment made her happy.

But when she looked around, she noticed something.

Everyone celebrated their achievements with friends.

Aisha celebrated hers alone.

When recess arrived, the playground came alive with excitement.

Some children played tag.

Others skipped rope or chased footballs across the field.

Aisha stood near a large tree, watching them laugh.

She wanted to join.

She really did.

But every group already seemed complete.

She took one small step forward...

Then stopped.

"What if they don't want me there?"

The thought frightened her more than being alone.

So she quietly sat beneath the tree and watched the clouds drift across the bright blue sky.

She imagined one of the girls running over.

"Come play with us!"

But no one came.

After lunch, the class was asked to work in pairs on a drawing activity.

Aisha's heart raced.

"This is my chance."

Before she could ask anyone, children quickly chose their partners.

Within seconds, everyone had someone beside them.

Everyone...

Except her.

The teacher noticed immediately.

"It's alright," she said kindly. "I'll be your partner today."

Aisha smiled politely, but inside her heart felt strangely heavy.

She wasn't upset with the teacher.

She was grateful.

But she wished, just once, another student had chosen her first.

When the final bell rang, children rushed outside together, laughing and making plans for tomorrow.

"I'll bring my new game!"

"Let's sit together again!"

"See you tomorrow!"

Aisha walked behind them quietly, listening to conversations she wasn't part of.

At home, she opened her small notebook.

It wasn't a diary—not yet.

She simply wrote one sentence with her favourite blue pencil.

"Tomorrow, maybe someone will talk to me."

She stared at the words for a long time before closing the notebook.

That night, she looked out of her bedroom window at the stars.

Some were bright.

Some were hidden behind clouds.

She wondered if people were like stars too.

Maybe everyone shines eventually.

Maybe her time simply hadn't come yet.

She smiled softly before closing her eyes.

Tomorrow was another chance.

Another hope.

Another beginning.

And although no one knew it, Aisha would carry that hope into every new school year, believing that somewhere ahead, someone was waiting to notice her.
