Episode 3 - The Invisible Girl

A few months had passed since Aisha's first day at school.

The excitement she had once felt every morning slowly began to fade. She still woke up early, wore her uniform neatly, and carried her favourite blue backpack, but the hope she held in her heart wasn't as bright as before.

Every day felt almost the same.

She entered the classroom.

She greeted the teacher politely.

She sat quietly at her desk.

Then she watched everyone else laugh together.

By now, the children had formed close friendships. They shared snacks during lunch, exchanged colourful erasers, and whispered secrets that made them burst into laughter.

Aisha smiled whenever she saw them happy.

She wasn't angry.

She wasn't jealous.

She simply wished she had someone to laugh with too.

One afternoon, during art class, the teacher announced, "Today we'll make a poster together. You may choose a group of four."

The classroom immediately became noisy.

"I'll join you!"

"Come to our group!"

"We still need one more!"

Children rushed across the room, calling each other's names.

Aisha looked around, waiting for someone to notice her.

She even smiled at a girl sitting nearby, hoping she might ask.

But the girl looked past her and invited someone else instead.

Within minutes, every group was complete.

Aisha remained standing beside her desk.

The teacher looked around the room before noticing her.

"Aisha, you can join my table," she said gently.

She nodded with a small smile.

"Okay, ma'am."

She tried to act as though nothing was wrong, but deep inside, her heart ached.

"Why am I always the last person left?" she wondered.

That question stayed with her for the rest of the day.

After school, rain began to pour heavily.

Most students waited under the school roof with their friends, talking and laughing while they watched the rain.

Aisha stood quietly in a corner.

She listened to their conversations without saying a word.

One girl accidentally bumped into her.

"Oh... sorry."

"It's okay," Aisha replied softly.

The girl smiled politely before running back to her friends.

It was only a small moment.

But for Aisha, it was the first time a classmate had spoken to her all day.

That evening, while doing her homework, she couldn't stop thinking.

"Maybe I'm too quiet."

"Maybe I'm boring."

"Maybe there's something wrong with me."

She looked at herself in the mirror.

She saw the same brown eyes.

The same gentle smile.

The same girl she had always been.

Nothing seemed different.

Yet somehow, she always felt invisible.

Her mother entered the room carrying a glass of warm milk.

"What are you thinking about so seriously?" she asked.

Aisha hesitated.

Then she quietly asked,

"Ammi... why do some people have so many friends while others don't have any?"

Her mother sat beside her and gently held her hand.

"Sometimes people find friends quickly. Sometimes it takes longer. It doesn't mean you're less worthy of love or kindness."

Aisha wanted to believe those words.

She really did.

But children don't always understand patience.

They only understand the feeling of being left behind.

That night, before sleeping, she opened the little notebook she had started writing in.

Under yesterday's sentence, she wrote another.

"Today nobody chose me again."

She stared at the words until her eyes became blurry.

A single tear rolled down her cheek and landed on the page, smudging the blue ink.

She quickly wiped it away before anyone could see.

Then she closed the notebook and hugged it tightly against her chest.

Outside, the moon shone brightly across the silent night.

The world looked peaceful.

But inside Aisha's heart, a small crack had begun to form.

It wasn't caused by cruel words.

Or bullying.

Or rejection.

It was created by something much quieter...

The feeling of being invisible.
