Episode 5 - A New Beginning

Three years had passed since Aisha first walked into school with a heart full of dreams.

She had learned many things during those years. She had learned mathematics, science, history, and grammar. But outside the textbooks, life had taught her another lesson—that being surrounded by people didn't always mean you belonged.

She wasn't completely alone. Classmates spoke to her from time to time.

"Can I borrow your pencil?"

"Aisha, what's today's homework?"

"Can you pass this notebook to the front?"

"Thank you."

Those conversations lasted only a few seconds before everyone returned to their own friends.

No one was rude to her.

No one bullied her.

But when the school bell rang, nobody waited for her outside the classroom.

She was everyone's classmate.

Yet she was nobody's closest friend.

---

Elementary school came to an end, and the final farewell arrived sooner than she expected.

On the last day, students signed each other's slam books, exchanged farewell messages, and promised to stay in touch.

Aisha smiled as she watched them.

A few classmates wished her good luck.

"Bye, Aisha."

"All the best."

"Study well."

She smiled back.

"You too."

Their words were kind, but she knew they would probably never meet again.

As she walked out of the school gate for the last time, she looked back at the building where she had spent years waiting for something that never came.

She whispered softly,

"Maybe my story belongs somewhere else."

---

A few months later, she stood in front of the gates of her new high school.

The building looked enormous.

Students filled the courtyard, some arriving with old friends from middle school, while others looked just as nervous as she felt.

She took a deep breath.

"Nobody knows me here."

"This is my chance to start over."

The thought made her heart beat faster.

She entered her classroom and quietly chose a seat beside the window.

The morning breeze drifted through the open window, carrying the scent of fresh rain.

One by one, students entered the room.

Some greeted each other excitedly.

"Hey! You're here too!"

"I thought you'd be in another section!"

Laughter quickly filled the classroom.

Aisha simply watched.

The teacher soon arrived.

"Good morning, everyone. Welcome to your first year of high school."

He asked each student to introduce themselves.

When it was Aisha's turn, she stood up.

"My name is Aisha. I like reading novels and writing stories."

The teacher smiled.

"That's wonderful. Writers often notice the little things other people miss."

His words stayed with her.

For the first time, someone had noticed something about her beyond her marks.

---

During the lunch break, the girl sitting beside her turned and smiled.

"Hi... I'm Sara."

"I'm Aisha."

"You write stories?"

Aisha nodded.

"A little."

"That's nice. I can barely finish my English homework," Sara laughed.

Aisha laughed too.

For a few minutes, they talked about their favourite subjects, teachers, and how confusing the new school felt.

When lunch ended, Sara said,

"See you tomorrow."

Aisha felt unexpectedly happy.

It wasn't a deep friendship.

It was just a small conversation.

But to her, it meant that someone had chosen to speak with her without needing a pencil or homework.

Over the next few weeks, similar moments happened.

A boy in front of her would occasionally ask,

"Aisha, can you pass me the attendance sheet?"

Another classmate borrowed her ruler during a geometry lesson.

Sometimes Sara asked,

"Did you understand today's maths class?"

They laughed together once or twice.

They even shared snacks on a few occasions.

Aisha slowly realised something.

People did notice her.

They just never seemed to let her into their lives.

When classes ended, Sara left with another group of girls.

The boys walked home together.

Everyone already had someone waiting.

Aisha still walked home alone.

Yet, unlike her old school, she no longer felt completely invisible.

She carried a tiny spark of hope again.

Maybe friendships didn't happen overnight.

Maybe they simply needed time.

As she reached home that evening, she opened her notebook and wrote,

"Today someone laughed at my joke."

"It was only for a moment..."

"But maybe this is how every friendship begins."

She closed the notebook with a smile.

For the first time in years, her heart wasn't waiting for a miracle.

It was simply waiting for tomorrow.

Little did she know that tomorrow would bring someone whose presence would quietly change the way her heart understood hope.

End of Episode 5

"Sometimes hope doesn't return with grand moments. Sometimes it returns with a simple 'Hi,' a shared laugh, or someone remembering your name."
