"People always jump into conclusions without trying to find the truth behind a story. Why is it they always forget that just like a coin, there are always two faces of a story?! _Skylar.
It was the time after Skylar lost her father. A few days after her father's cremation, Skylar was left in the Wolfrick's house after her mother was admitted in the hospital. She would assist the maids when they needed her. The servants in the Wolfrick's mansion were like a family to her and the servant's quarters was her world. Every morning she would come to the garden to water the little plants with her small hands, the plants were grown by her mother and she didn't want the plants to whither in her mother's absence.
A small smile which never reached her eyes, always formed on her lips whenever she looked at the plants under the bright sun. She would wake up early in the morning from her sleepless nights and sit in the garden finding peace among the bushes. What she didn't know was that a certain boy around her age would also wake up early in the morning only to see her if she was alright. His heart always was at ease whenever he saw her smile and crushed when she cried. At the same time, he was curious as why he felt that way only towards her.
The stupendous space in the office was emblished with minimalistic furniture and the floor was polished. Huge paintings were hung on the wall on either sides, making the empty walls look attractive. At the end of the floor, a huge glass door occupied an entire wall through which, a huge part of Kinsale could be seen if one stood there. Droplets of water was trickling down on the glass door as the showers of rain continued. It was raining like any other day in Kinsale, being sitiatued in a mountain region rainfall was expected for every three to two days in a week.
After showing her every corner of the office, Trevor went back to his room and relaxed on his chair. It was after a few minutes did his eyes settle on her. He took one glance at his new personal secretary at her desk. There was only a glass wall between him and her. He could see her clearly through the blinds of the glass wall. She looked as if she was left in a deserted land with no destination or atleast a map in her hand to find her way.
Chuckling to himself, he called her to come to his room. A knock was heard the very next minute after he called her, she wore a light coloured frock, it was long enough to cover her knees and her hands too were covered with a shrug. Her baby hair was on either sides of her cheeks and her long hair was braided, making her look presentable and her eyes...
He should not look into her eyes, he reminded himself before clearing his throat.
"Go through these documents, you will have an idea about our company's clients and also you will find every information you need. If you don't understand, don't come to me," he shook his head and continued, "I'm a very busy man. Ask Ms. Reid about it, she will guide you... And also, bring me a cup of coffee," he smiled at the end.
'Didn't he say he was a very busy man?' Skylar thought when she saw him close his eyes as he leaned on his chair.
After coming out of his room, Skylar placed the documents on her desk and made her way to the pantry, she made sure to ignore the people when she walked past them. The distance from her desk to the pantry wasn't too long. She took an empty cup and poured hot milk in it before adding coffee and sugar. Just when Skylar was about to leave, she came across a few women who smiled at her.
"I hope you liked your new workplace," a woman named Laura, spoke to her.
There was a smile on her face, the woman's cheeks were coated pink, it was clear that her eyelashes were painted with mascara.
"It is good," smiled Skylar, she didn't want to prolong the conversation because she didn't feel comfortable around these women.
"Why don't you join us since you are having your coffee," chimed another woman.
"The coffee isn't for me, I made it for Mr. Wolfrick..."
Before Skylar could complete what she had been meaning to tell them, the women in the pantry laughed and it only made her look at them in bewilderment.
"Everyone here knows how much Mr. Wolfrick hates coffee," Laura laughed in between her words, placing a hand on her stomach and another to cover her mouth.
"You are his personal secretary, you should be aware of these little things about him. I heard you came for the interview and got the job without attending it."
Skylar noticed the way the another woman stressed about her being his personal secretary. A frown was formed on Skylar’s face and it deepened when she heard third person's voice.
"Your stars must be shining as bright as the London lights," the woman chuckled.
Skylar who was surrounded with the three women, wanted to leave the place right away before she lost her control. Just because she was being silent didn't mean they could speak anything in front of her. It was her first day and she didn't want to ruin her day because of them.
"That I agree," came a familiar voice from behind. The women in the pantry except Skylar dispersed, being aware that the deep rich voice belonged to their boss.
The three women stood at one corner, away from each other and pretended as if they had come to pick something. They followed Skylar to pantry to start a conversation and satisfy their curiosity. The girls had a bet with someone on Skylar being their boss's bed warmer and they wanted to find the truth through her mouth, they didn't want to lose the bet. But things didn't go according to their plans since Trevor was here.
"I am sorry for the late, Mr. Wolfrick. Do you want me to get another cup of coffee?" Skylar asked him.
"There is no need for that," he waved his hand in the air before taking the cup from her. "There are details about Kinsale's resort in a file. Go through them immediately, we are going somewhere in a while," he added, taking a sip and shifted his attention to somewhere else.
"What is it that you three musketeers are digging in here," the three women turned to face him at once. He was clear at what he spoke, they were trying to dig some spicy information from Skylar in which they failed to do so because of his unwanted interruption.
A chuckle erupted from Skylar’s lips the moment
she understood his hidden meaning, which the women couldn't. His words were just words to them.
"We... We came to have coffee too," Laura gave sheepish smile and scratched her neck.
"Is it? But why did I see you three standing like a statue until a few seconds ago," he pointed out when he saw Skylar holding back her chuckle from his peripheral vision.
"We are yet to prepare it, Sir. Do you want to have a cup of coffee?" Juliana turned to Skylar, she was one of the three women.
"No, thankyou," replied Skylar in her sweet voice. To his ears, her voice sounded sweeter than the sugar she added in his coffee.
"I don't want you three loitering around in the office again," he warned them before placing the empty cup on an empty table. "... And also keep your curiosity to yourself, don't pester my secretary with your curiosities," said the curious man himself.
Hypocrite, was what his cousin would've called him if he was here. Because Trevor himself was a curious man and his curiousity didn't have any boundaries.
"Do you hate coffee, Mr. Wolfrick?" asked Skylar when they were in his car.
The clouds moved away, allowing the sun rays to fall on the land that has been moistended by the rain water. Skylar skimmed through the details in the given time before coming out with him. She was not curious about his likes or dislikes but being his secretary, she had to know about them.
"Your coffee is an exception, Ms. Byrne," he answered bluntly, with his eyes on the road. "it reminds me of something..." he added when the girl looked at him with her bright green eyes. "... and I am done with the questions," he replied again, making sure he didn't slip his tongue when he looked at her.
"One last question, Mr. Wolfrick," she said a little louder because of the music that was being played in the car. She has been showering questions on him since the time they left their work place, it was mostly about the clients and the projects which Trevor was least interested to talk to her about it now.
"I don't intend to pay you for interviewing me, Ms. Byrne..." he sighed and rubbed his forehead with his finger tips. "Last question," he added, when he saw the dejected look on her face.
"Where are we heading to?" she asked, expectantly.
"Somewhere on earth," replied Trevor which sounded in a very sarcastic way to Skylar.
